We stayed in Domaine de Bodeuc in late august with our 5 year-old daughter. The hotel is a like a small chateau with a large park near Nivillac in Morbihan. It has another building with several rooms a short walk from the main building. Our room was basic 3 stars but with good amenities, a large bathroom with a bathtub, a very nice four poster double bed (lit a baldaquin in french), a TV, but was a bit short on drawers and didnt have a safe.
The hotel is set in a lovely park with century old trees, bits of forest for walks and its own vegetable patch. It has a small swimming pool with sun lounges, and decks of chairs. There are tables for reading or relaxation scattered across the domaine. What makes the stay highly enjoyable is not just the setting, but mainly the good character of the owners/managers, a couple with a 3 year-old daughter. They are both very well-travelled, the french husband having toured the world as an expat for 25 years, while the wife is russian from origin and speaks perfect english and french. They both look very well after guests, and should be consulted for tour recommendations. They have also adapted the restaurant's catering for children's palates as well.
The hotel restaurant serves a decent typical french breakfast with fresh viennoiseries, fresh bread, good choice of jams, fruits juice or hot drinks, and offers various types of cereals. I do not think it offers english style breakfast, which wasnt a problem for us. The evening dinner menu is good and relatively cheap at EUR30 per person for a 3 course meal menu. After 4 nights the menu can seem a bit samey, however, I managed to eat a different meal each evening as new items were added. Menus included in no particular order, fresh oysters from the region, foie gras, fresh salmon salad, mussel soup, sea bass, other sea fish, duck magret, and pork. We ate very well.
The clientele is by and large international. Although there are no more than a dozen rooms, customers during our stay included French, British, Dutch, German, Spanish and Japanese.
All in all, given the price, quality of accomodation, food, setting and service, I found the stay in Domaine de Bodeuc very enjoyable. I would say that the hotel is perfect for families as well as couples as a romantic getaway and should also be sought by those looking for silence, nature and generally a quiet stay.
Nivillac is a good place to stay to discover Vendee, la Baule, Quiberon, Carnac, Guerande and other places in Morbihan. A good place to visit nearby as well is La Roche Bernard, a village dating back from the 9th century with loads of character, some nice restau outfits and shops selling locally made artifacts (coloured glass, art, glass made pearls, jewellery, potteries, etc).

Once again my wife and I stayed at the Domaine de Bodeuc; always a great pleasure! Marina and Christophe Chastan, the proprietors, are two of the friendliest and welcoming people you could wish to meet. Everything about the manner in which they run the hotel cannot be faulted, and the guests are all treated as one of their family. The location - in the middle of some beautiful French countryside is so peaceful and relaxing, the rooms are well appointed and the food, much of which is sourced locally is excellent, well prepared and presented. Also the staff are very friendly and only too willing to help. Now looking forward to our next visit - Lynda and Paul.

Room Tip: All rooms are excellent.

One year on, on our yearly golf trip to France we came back and yes it's still simply superb. We were looked after by the wife this time and what a treasure. Her warmth and kindness just pours out.
We will see you next year

My husband spend a night here last week and found this hotel by chance, it was not one of the ones he had been recommended to locally but he said everything about it was excellent. The hotel was spotlessly clean and the welcome from the owner outstanding plus the food was great too.

Having read other reviews, we decided to stay at the Domaine de Bodeuc, as the food is an important part of any French holiday.

Marina and Christophe have been running the hotel for just 2 years and have concentrated on building up a reputation for the quality of the food.

The choice of accommodation is between the rooms in the main manor house, which retain the original character, or the newer converted building a few hundred metres away. We stayed in one of the newer rooms, which are clean, bright and functional, while also retaining original beams. (120 Euros)

The hotel is set within attractive wooded grounds, which include a large walled vegetable garden and a swimming pool. During our stay the silence was only disturbed by the sound of a cookoo!

Dinner in the evening (30 Euros) is hosted by Christophe, who describes the choices available and will recommend a suitable wine. Other reviewers have mentioned the possiblity of matching a glass of wine with each course, but there is only a limited choice by the glass. There is, however, a very good selection of half bottles. We found the food to be good, although some of the desserts lacked imagination.

Breakfast (12.50 Euros) consists of freshly squeezed orange juice, or apple juice, tea or coffee, a choice of musili and yogurts, croissants, pain au chocolat, french bread and preserves. For a very small hotel, this is quite acceptable and enough to keep you going until a coffee break, with a cake in a local French patisserie !

This is not a 5 star hotel, but you are not paying 5 star prices. Yes, there could be some improvements, but Marina and Christophe try to make your stay a happy one and I am sure that as their business flourishes they will be able to invest money in this lovely property.
