Camping Sandaya Le Chateau des Marais

This was the most disappointing Eurocamp destination by far over the past few holidays . The plot sizes are small and ours was ungravelled ( most of the others were ) meaning with the wet weather our car turned our plot into a mud bath meaning it went all through the caravan . The on-site bar and restaurant is very expensive and the food not good. As an example we had a 50 cl beer and shandy and it came to 10 euros and we sent the kids up the get 3 portions of chips with the BBQ one evening and they came back with what I would class as 1 portion size and it came to 6 euros. All in all a very disappointing experience where corners were cut to save money at every opportunity. Our Eurocamp van had numerous issues and problems including us having no water pressure and numerous power cuts happened over the site. I wouldn't recommend this site and Eurocamp experience to my worst enemy !

Great well-kept and friendly site. Weather wasn't great so didn't use the many pools or mini-golf - not the site's fault though. On site facilities well maintained and clean. Surpisingly comfortable accomodation (Horizon midi) for 4 of us, none of us small. Definitely planning to return later in the year.

I worked for Keycamp in 2012 on this campsite so this is a campsite review not a company review, the site is very child friendly with lots of 'aire de jeux', the pool area is very good but could be a lot Warmer, sometimes they were very cold, the shop is good but could be better, the campsite staff are all very helpful and all speak English, the bar is good but shuts at 10.30 because of the noise curfew. The location is great to get anywhere easily in a car or bike. Washing facilities are good with four shower blocks, Unfortunately I won't be on this site this year I will miss it

I stayed here with my husband and 3 kids ages 3 to 11 last August. We stayed in one of the Keycamp tree houses. It was a great novelty sleeping in the trees. The safari tent you get at ground level is pretty basic, but has the kitchen facilities you need. We found we always carried our food upstairs to the table on the treehouse decking as it was so much nicer up there. At ground level you're very much in amongst other tents and campers. The treehouse was great, but some of the finishing touches were not thought through (e.g. a mattress that didn't fill the wooden bed surround in the main bedroom). We really enjoyed it but were also very happy to have electricity and running water the next week when we stayed in a more conventional chalet. There's plenty of space and it felt safe even for our youngest, as sides were high and well netted. Don't know if I'd want to do it with a 2 year old though, (my son was nearly 4 and fairly sensible). We didn't use the sawdust toilets as it was in the mid 30s when we arrived and we didn't fancy finding out how week old wee would smell in those conditions!

The site itself is great for young families. Definitely take your bikes if you can - lovely safe cycling for kids around the site and a ride through the forest to the Chateau Chambord is a great day out. We also rode along the track next to the Loire which is very quiet. We took a picnic and waded across a shallow section to an island for lunch, with not a soul in sight. The kids loved the pool at the site and the slides, but worth taking a shortie wetsuit if your kids feel the cold as the water temperature is not all that warm - great on the hot days, but if its a cloudy day it's not quite warm enough.

Room Tip: Stay in a tree house for a few days as a novelty, or book direct with the campsite for one of their...

We stayed here for one week at the end of August. Having seen the site in the Keycamp brochure, we instead booked directly with the site - a "VIP 6". This was far cheaper than the cheapest Keycamp mobile home and many times better - it was brand new, in a seperate and quiet part of the site, and very comfortable. Three bedrooms - a double en-suite, a twin, and a bunk room. This was perfect, as our party was my wife and I, our six year old son and my wife's parents.

The site was very nice overall. The pools were very good, and our son (and I) really enjoyed the slides. Ideal for primary age children. We also enjoyed hiring go-karts, playing table tennis and tennis, and generally enjoying the fine weather. What was nice, and unexpected, was that as we booked a "VIP" cabin with the site, we got a little pack of treats - including winw fruit juice and vouchers for tennis and the spa. The bar area was very nice, and the food from both the take away and the restaurant was very good in my opinion, and good value.

Whilst we were there the weather, overall, was splendid. Temperatures ranged from 21C to a very hot 32C. On three mornings we woke up to grey skies and decidedly chilly weather, and thought that we would have a day of rubbish weather. But on every occasion, by lunchtime, the clouds cleared and we had a beautiful afternoon. Good for sunbathing round the pool on every day.

Around and about we visited Chambord for one day, which is very beautiful. We enjoyed the grounds, didn't go inside, but did enjoy the "Horse Show" and horse and carriage ride. Absolutely excellent. We also had a morning out to the lovely Blois, again enjoying a horse and carriage ride. And a third day out enjoying a boat trip past Chateau Chenonceau and then onto the beautiful Amboise - a real highlight.

Overall, a very good holiday - we thoroughly enjoyed. About six hours drive from Calais, and worlds away from England. Thoroughly recommended!

Room Tip: Book a VIP cabin with the site directly - superb mobile homes in a quiet part of the site.

We stayed at this site with Keycamp in a Villanova mobile home in July. We stayed in July and the weather was mixed but even on cooler or rainy days there was plenty to do nearby. Chateaus des Chambord is just round the corner and is quite stunning with some lovely markets. The site has a some great pools, an onsite shop, a variety of kids clubs, several small playparks (swings and slides), a decent restaurant and a takeaway. The site is very clean, felt safe, secure and there are plenty of staff around. The caravan was clean and quite spacious (if a little basic) for a small family with a BBQ, table and chairs outside. A really good value family holiday within easy driving reach of Calais.

We stayed for 10 nights in August and we loved it, friendly staff, good food and drink on site with supermarkets approx 5km away. Thre is still a Frenchness about it which we liked.

Whilst we were there I locked my key in my car and the staff couldn't do enough to help.

We will be back.
