Visited for lunch 25 Sept. Two menus available printed on plasticised paper. Three courses on the dearest. First dish was so poor that I put it out of my memory. The main course was a few thin calamari rings on boiled rice. The dessert was described as Tiramisu but was nothing like any proper Tiramisu - ghastly. Wines were all more expensive than the menus. The ingredients were poor, but the cooking was even worse.
If this restaurant has had the plaudits shown on Tripadvisor, then I fear for French culinary arts.

This restaurant was recommended by a local vintner and it seemed to be a popular choice for the locals in the beautiful town of Lambesc. I asked if we could see the menu and the response was "moi, je suis le menu!" It was a nice simple choice of three different main courses, dessert etc. in a fixed menu; or the buffet. It turned out there was also a special, which my wife and I chose. This was the dorade and it turned out to be very tasty and wonderfully prepared (see picture). Our son had the cold buffet which had lots of meat, cheese, and vegetable choices. This was a very nice restaurant; good food and good service. I recommend it!

In Peter Mayle's book 'A Year in Provence.' his February chapter describes his visit to a restaurant in Lambesc. When we moved to village in 2001 we discovered, with sadness that this restaurant had closed a number of years before. The Lou Coungoust has, however, over the last few years, more than made up for this disappointment, and I was surprised to learn that it had remained a secret from Trip Advisor, perhaps as Lambesc is not on the main tourist trail. So here is their first Trip Advisor review.
The restaurant is a family business run by a young couple. The Chef's food is inventive and tasty with classic provencal dishes given a modern twist. Last night's Daube Provencal and the Duo de Mer fish dishes were excellent, as were the fresh tomato based starters. The restaurant uses seasonal produce and the menu changes regularly. The service is never rapid, but speed gives me indigestion. If one thing brings you to Lambesc, let it be this wonderful little place.
