In Peter Mayle's book 'A Year in Provence.' his February chapter describes his visit to a restaurant in Lambesc. When we moved to village in 2001 we discovered, with sadness that this restaurant had closed a number of years before. The Lou Coungoust has, however, over the last few years, more than made up for this disappointment, and I was surprised to learn that it had remained a secret from Trip Advisor, perhaps as Lambesc is not on the main tourist trail. So here is their first Trip Advisor review.
The restaurant is a family business run by a young couple. The Chef's food is inventive and tasty with classic provencal dishes given a modern twist. Last night's Daube Provencal and the Duo de Mer fish dishes were excellent, as were the fresh tomato based starters. The restaurant uses seasonal produce and the menu changes regularly. The service is never rapid, but speed gives me indigestion. If one thing brings you to Lambesc, let it be this wonderful little place.
