we stayed here 2 nights. One night on the way to the South of France and one on our return. The first night we found our room to be a bit dusty, so I asked them to look into it for our return visit since I am allergic to dust. I was impressed. I have never seen such a clean room. Everything looked new. This is a quiet and charming hotel in the middle of no where. The only downside was the church clock beside the hotel. My husband is a light sleeper and was woken up every 30 minutes by the church bells, (with a few extra chimes on Sunday.) Otherwise, I slept well and loved the dinner. Thanks for your lovely service.

We booked fairly late and the internet was showing no availability but I phoned and was offered a Junior suite for ourselves with a sofa bed for our 2 grandchildren aged 10 & 6 at a cost of €280.00 plus €40.00 for the sofa bed.

The room was on the first floor in an outbuilding in the garden area and on first impressions was very pleasant in a shabby chic kind of way. The room was somewhat dingy with small windows and additional lighting or higher wattage bulbs would have made it more pleasant.

Four a 4 star property I had expected a mini Bar but sadly there was not one. There was a complimentary bottle of water and 4 glasses. There was tea and coffee making facilities, but the kettle lived on a very low level shelf under the table and the choice of tea was Earl Grey or Earl Grey. There was no mini plastic pot of UHT milk, to accompany my personal English breakfast tea bag. There was a Nespresso machine and four capsules along side the low level kettle but I have never really mastered what to do with these gadgets so I tend to avoid them. The reception did however promptly arrange for a glass of Chablis and a few pretzels to be sent to the room. At €8.00 it was not a particularly well filled glass !

The room itself was acceptable, but the double bed was two singles with a big ridge along the joint. The sofa bed was unmade when we returned from dinner and it was quite a challenge to find a member of staff capable of converting it from a sofa into a double bed. Also, after playing 'Hunt the remote' for the Air Conditioner, we failed to find it. The staff could not find it either so a duplicate was sent to the room. The Air Conditioner quickly brought the room temperature down but the noise from the unit was un acceptable. Whether the unit had a dodgy fan motor bearing or whether that particular 'unheard of' brand were just noisy will remain a mystery.

The Dinner was excellent and we had set menus being Menu Homard @ €58.00 and Le Menu du Colombier @ €43.00. Notable was the Melon and Foir gras . An unusual combination but it worked well. The children were offered a Menu infant @ €18.00 which was excellent value and ideal for young ones. They both had grilled Dorade with pureed vegetables presented as 3 mice with eyes and a green vegetable tail ! The wine list was both extensive and expensive. We had the Jadot, Puligny Montrachet @ €49.00 which seemed reasonable value.

Breakfast was adequate but not very inspiring. Only boiled eggs and toast as 'Hot food' and the usual mix of bread, cakes, cereal, ham, fruit and yoghurt. The Tea and coffee was DIY and the fruit juices were simply orange or grapefruit. Apple juice was not available even by request.

As others have said, the gardens and Pool are excellent, but it is the overall attention to detail that makes the difference between Good and Excellent.

Dear Madam, Mister.

We would like to thank you for your time writting your feed back following your stay at our house.

We are glad you have liked your room, the pool and the gardens.
Our kitchen's team thanks you for your excellent feedback about the food and we all like the picture of your grand son in front of his rather amuzing looking main course.

Our breakfast is indeed a continental mostly cold buffet. We are working on a project to add a selection of hot dishes to it.

We appologize for not opening the sofa bed before your arrival or showing you where the mini bar was(inside the cupboard near the bed) as our team normally gives a tour of the room to each of our guest.

If there is anything you require such as extra tea or milk in your room, you are always welcome to ask our team who will be delighted to accomodate your needs.

Thank you for letting us know about the noise coming from the air conditioning. We have looked into it and fixed it.

We appreciate your constructive comments, please be assured that we will put in all the efforts necessary in order to be excellent rather than just good more consistently.

We are looking forward to your next visit

Best regards

We found chateau de courban on the internet and stayed a couple of nights on our way back from Switzerland. A lovely hotel in every way. Staff very helpful; food outstanding; wine list very extensive.

Our only comment would be that there were not enough sun loungers around the pool for al the guests. I am sure this can be rectified very easily.

Would thoroughly recommend but like most things is Europe it is not for the budget conscious!

We stopped here on the way back form the south of France. It was going to be for one night but the place looked so good we stayed for two. If you stay here I hope aren't planning to do anything but chill out in French way because thats all you can do without driving. The village doesn't even have a bar, unheard of in France. The staff were warm and attentive and the decor was what I would call period French. The four poster was great and did dominate the room. There was a "are you sure" as we drove into the village but be assured you do get a wow factor when you arrive and that continues throught the stay.

Le Chateau De Courban is an idyllic retreat close to some excellent wine regions. We found the hotel via Google for our party of 11 (4 Adults, 6 Teenagers and 1 child) and used the hotel for 2 nights on our outward and return journey.

The hotel and facilities look as they do in the pictures (paint has changed on outside!). The pool area and the lay out are lovely and set you instantly at ease. The staff are attentive and approachable.

262 Euros for an excellent three course dinner, room and breakfast is good value. Only criticism is the wine seems very expensive considering where the hotel is based.

I’ll certainly recommend to family and friends.

William

This château has everything -attentive staff, fantastic rooms, a delightful, large, outdoor infinity pool with lots of sun loungers and Spa attached, and beautiful gardens and fantastic restaurant. The rooms were very reasonably priced (and we had a free upgrade to a fabulous junior suite on the second floor although we could hear the family in the adjoining rooms) and although the restaurant was more expensive than the other châteaux we stayed at on our drive north it was certainly worth it. The staff were incredibly attentive and professional (and although we were asked to decide on our à la carte dessert when ordering (!) when we couldn't the waitress said we could order it later). The wine list was limited and expensive but our €42 bottle of Pouilly Fumé (one of the cheapest!) was amazing. The food was absolutely amazing, (the website menu is a bit outdated) including a dozen snails and a fabulous starter of 'rattes de Touquet' with the most amazing truffles. Main courses of guinea fowl with roasted fig and foie gras were delectable and my dessert of Nem au chocolat with mangoes and violet sorbet was so delicious I never wanted to take the final mouthful! A very special evening.
Like a previous reviewer we were upgraded but at no cost and although breakfast was charged on the bill, we did not take it and it was removed without question. Customers should always check the bill and mention if unhappy about anything there and then so the hotel has a chance to put an honest mistake right if necessary. I would recommend this château.
