“Really just a recreation and museum”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 5, 2013

The cable car trip to the Castle was really a nice and made for some great Photo opportunities. The walk to the castles was shaded and a very nice qiet stroll. Unfortunately, the castle itself was a bit of a let down. It consist of 3 stories of photo's and somewhat nice blades and the roof top observation deck provided more interesting photographic opportunities. All and all the castle is more of a tourist jaunt than a cultural exchange.

“Interesting artifacts, spectacular view of Iwakuni below”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 17, 2013

The castle has been turned into a museum feauring various artifacts such as old swords, samurai suits, and old scrolls. The museum has no English plaques, but the artifacts are just cool to look at.

The top floor of the castle offers gorgeous views of the city below, and if you use the telescopes provided you can see things in clear detail, including various helicopters and fighter jets on Iwakuni MCAS.

“Cool castle”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 31, 2012

Walk to the top or take the tram. It has a beatiful view of the bridge below and Iwakuni. Don't forget to see the park below. If you like Samuri swords, this is the place for you.

“Very interesting!”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 26, 2012

We liked this castle and the view from the top of the mountain. There are two options to get here - take the cable car for a small fee or hike up on many of the available trails. The area at the top is nice for a picnic and the castle has a great display of cultural outfits, tools, and weapons. We were disappointed that the castle is really just a replica, but it was still worth the visit.

“Great views but little else”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 14, 2012

The Iwakuni castle offers superb views over the Kintaikyo park area, city and water. Unfortunately the castle itself lacks much in historical offerings. If you've been to other castles, I'd probably skip it unless it's a beautiful day.

If you're moderately fit and want a little exercise, I recommend heading up the trail to the castle. The trail is beside the ropeway heading towards the shrine. It's a great little hike and you save money on the ropeway.
