I have recently stayed at this hotel and just wanted to say what a lovely hotel it is,it is comfortable and well run and what a position right next to a sandy beach the owners and staff were very welcoming and the food was excellent likewise the rooms very nicely decorated and clean.I would stay here again and strongly recommend it.the outer Hebrides is somewhere I have always wanted to visit .

The beach of fine silver sand is genuinely just out of the back door, and the hotel lies in a dramatic setting overlooking the bay and, further out, the Atlantic. It is possible to walk a romantic, deserted beach directly from the door, before and after dinner (weather permitting!)
First impressions, from outside, are of a building reminiscent of a 1950s concrete lido. Inside the atmosphere is quaint, with a nautical / seaside theme.
The owner and staff could not have been more welcoming and helpful.
The room was clean and adequate, but showing its age. There was a fair amount of noise from adjacent rooms, but with the window open to the sea sounds the noises faded away
The food was excellent, with an emphasis on local produce. The service attentive, but not overwhelming.
There is not a lot of hotel accommodation on Barra, and certainly none in such a setting as this. On its own, this would be a good reason to stay at the hotel. But the addition of the welcoming owner and staff, and the food, make this a place not to miss on Barra.

Room Tip: Not all rooms have a sea view.

Dear Bert057

The silver sand, the dramatic setting and the powerful Atlantic Ocean are all undeniable but did you know that the hotel is the most westerly hotel in Great Britain with our neighbours and the next landfall being Hudson Bay, Canada? This is just one of many interesting points in the hotel’s short history, and of course we are surrounded by the Barra’s beautiful rugged landscape with potential walks setting out in every direction.
We are pleased to read of all the pluses that you enjoyed and the fact that you were able to overcome the apparent noise from adjacent rooms, it is sometimes difficult to avoid noisy guests and we apologise for this but there is often very little that we can do. So, thank you for your interesting and supportive review and do come back. Take care

A wonderful experience at a well run hotel, made all the better with a week of sunshine.
Staff were friendly and attentive.
Good food, but don't go on a package deal.
The beach was quite stunning in warm conditions more like the Caribean.

Dear Jack7_13

What a concise review and so positive, many thanks for your kind review; it’s great that you so enjoyed both your holiday and the hotel. As a matter of interest the Caribbean is often compared with Barra and the other Outer Hebridean beaches and dare I say it, the Caribbean can be found wanting as their beaches are often too crowded. Take care

I planned a surprise trip to the Isle of Barra with my girlfriend on the weekend just gone. The Twin Otter 'beach landing' flight to Barra is an experience in itself and is the only scheduled service of its kind in the world. We stayed for 2 nights and ate at the restaurant on both occasions. The room was clean and well presented. The bathroom was modern and again very clean. However the main strength of the room was the exceptional view. I've stayed in exotic places such as the Carribean and Southern Africa but this surpasses comparable 'room views' by some margin. Simply stunning. The restaurant had an uninterrupted view of this natural wonder and the food was faultless. Every dish was perfection. However without a shadow of a doubt this hotels finest asset are its staff. From the moment we arrived we were made to feel extremely welcome and at ease. I would like to particularly mention the South African waiter (sorry I didn't catch your name) who served us. He was the defination of customer service and made our stay feel very special. The manager and family staff members obviously take great pride in this fantastic set up and it is clearly their passion to provide as many people as possible the ability to enjoy the Isle of Barra's stunning surroundings. As for my girlfriend.........well she is now my fiancée. Perfect weekend. Go. You won't regret it!

Room Tip: Choose the sea view upper floor. Worth every penny!
