I have borrowed the title of this review directly from the hotel's own web-site - it is a very appealing invitation.
A small but luxurious hotel in an unbeatable location. The hotel is only a five minute walk from the centre of a small but fairly busy village (market day is Thursday - then very lively) and two minutes from an attractive, sandy and safe swimming beach with its own diving board for use at high tide and three different beach restaurants. The hotel has twelve rooms, all of them overlooking the sea and the bay of Morlaix with its mix of small islands, rocks, lighthouses and even a castle (the chateau de taureau, a former prison). Each room is designed with a maritime theme and several rooms have an outdoor balcony. The effect when walking out on these balconies is of being on a cruise liner for the sea is right below. Some rooms also have other features like four-poster beds. Our room was a standard room costing 177 euros a night (the balconied rooms are 220 euros) but very comfortable, very clean, and included a minibar fridge which was kept topped up daily with beers and soft drinks for no charge. The bed was extremely comfortable and the rooms are serviced each day. It was also nice to have a large bathroom with bath and a separate room for the WC.
Breakfast is served either in the room or downstairs in the Michelin starred restaurant overlooking the bay. The price of breakfast is not included in the room tariff (17.50 euros) but was of very high quality, with freshly squeezed fruit juices, breads, croissants etc., preserves, cereal, yogurts, cold meats and cheeses, as well as eggs cooked on request - the prune tart was also delicious.
Because it is only a fifteeen minute drive from the port of Roscoff this hotel makes a perfect stopover before travelling further into France, but I recommend staying a week or so as there is more than enough in this area alone to please anyone, adult or child. We have been to Carantec about five times before in various sorts of accomodation, both hotel and self-catering, but the hotel de Carantec, though not inexpensive, has to be the best of the lot.
Only one regret - we did not dine or lunch in the hotel restaurant, the popularity of which was evident each evening. Maybe next time...
