Two friends and I (plus our climbing guide) made the Hotel Panorama our "base camp" while on a rock climbing trip to the Dolomites. We were there right at the end of the summer season, before the Hotel closed until it would open again for ski season. We opted for the full plan and couldn't have been more delighted. Breakfasts and dinners were excellent, as was the wine. Our waitress spoke very good English (we were only English-speaking guests in the hotel, I think) and was friendly and helpful. The rooms were fairly roomy. The location put us in close proximity to the Sella Towers, but required longer drives to get us to areas like the Cinque Torri or the Falzarego pass. Although we were there for rock climbing, we met lots of folks who were hiking, cycling, or just touring. The off-season price was extremely reasonable. The weather in the Dolomites isn't ideal in September -- it can be cool and a bit unstable -- but the difference between on and off season makes it worthwhile to go then. Just bring some extra layers and enjoy some of the most beautiful views in the world!More
