Three of us were driving up to the Italian Alps without an agenda and didn't know where we'd stay for the night. When we entered this little town, we knew we wanted to stay there. As luck would have it, the Tobia was right across the street from where we were parked. I asked if they had a room for three people, and they did. It was a nice little apartment with direct access to the outdoors (i.e. we drove our car up behind the hotel and unloaded to enter a door next to our apartment, much easier than having to wander through the hotel lobby and up the tiny elevator).

By European standards, the apartment was huge. It had one bedroom with two twin beds together, making a "king" sized bed, common in Europe. The bathroom was off of this room. A large family area was next to this, with a bed that unfolded from the couch on one side of the room. On the other side was a table with 4 chairs. There was plenty of space for 3 people, we never felt crowded. Just off the family room was a small kitchen area, though we did not use it.

We also loved the ambience of the hotel and the friendliness of the staff. The bar seemed the be the center of the social scene for the village. More people spoke German than Italian. It was busy, but fun. Breakfast was included and it was pretty standard European. But the restaurant's dinner menu was fabulous. My husband ate several types of wild game for dinner.

I highly recommend this friendly little hotel for anyone wandering through the Dolomites.

Stayed in Campitello, at Hotel Tobia, which was OK but would go elsewhere next time. Some nice restaurants in Campitello - try La Cantinetta for the Stinco (pork) & the Mini restaurant.
Masses of people skiing - & not high season, which was a disadvantage in that the pisting didn't last long on some runs (esp the men's downhill at Val Gardena or S. Christina)

The area is so huge it is totally overwhelming - will have to go back & spend a couple of weeks next time.
