Owner description: The Bardenas Reales is a arid desert region that was named a Natural Park in 1999 and incorporates 45,000 hectares of landscapes whose vegetation and rock formations are unique in Europe. The most famous landmark is the Castildetierra. It's landscapes were also famously used as backdrops for "Spaghetti Westerns" filmed in the 1950s. In 2000, it was declared a Biosphere reserve by UNESCO.

Fantastic semi-desert area. We went at sunset so the colours and shadows on the rock formations were lovely. We only visited the white area. Allow a few hours to soak in the landscape and walk around a bit. Remember to take water with you!

if you want to bump over shocking roads for an hour looking at odd rock formations, this is the place for youi. Otherwise, don't bother!

it was just us driving in the Bardenas at the end of the day when the sun was going down, very beautiful colors. Very impressive views of the canyons. A must see.

So beautiful and unexpected.
The information centre has siesta, therefore don't go there during that time if you want information.

the roads are a little narrow for two cars, but the views and scenery are wonderful to take it all in. 50m beyond the visitor centre there is viewing area - worth a stop.

There are Army centres in the National Park, so you cannot drive everywhere however it's easy to see which roads you cannot enter.

What an extreme experience.. In just 100-150km from the lush green of Pyrenees or of the coastal mountains of Basque Country you can get to a desert in a way of Nevada.

When you're driving around carefully on the poor gravel road, you just expect to bump into the Road Runner and Wile E. Coyote.

Instead you just meet the Spanish Army which has bases in the middle of the area. This is the only downside, as it removes somewhat of the pristinity of the area.
