Excited to finally go there after the storms. Got our fishing gear and sent on our way. Yippee fishing, and catching some. BUT we had enough, so released the fish. And got well abused by staff. He pointed out the sign which we had not seen. $50 for fish caught and released! Would have been a more enjoyable experience if we had known this when we first arrived rather than leaving sour.
Hence people arrive, catch the first fish and leave......

This experience was truly the best. Our family had never done any fishing before, but the host gave us a run down on all the details. We set off with the intention to only catch one but we were instantly hooked and came back with three. We had them smoked on the premises and ate them with garlic bread and salad, it was scrumptious. Highly recommend this experience.

We had been planning our south island trip for a year and after the flood damage we watched nervously to see if all would be up and running in time. We visited 2 weeks after the grand reopening, the only thing still being repaired was the kids playarea (which was having an AWESOME waterplay area installed) and we had a blast!! I did wonder if we were destined for disaster at one point as my kids took their time to catch their fish being at first determined to do it without the aid of fish pellets. But after we bought a couple of packets we hooked 3 salmon 1.1-1.3kg. OK it took 4 packets - at which point even the staff couldn't believe our inept fishing so we were given packets 5 and 6 - which we didn't end up needing as all of a sudden we finally found the fish everyone else was catching with ease. So we can confirm literally ANYONE can catch fish here. ;->
We were hungry after all that hard work of waiting in the sun for fish to bite so chose the platter and a salmon pizza to eat while waiting for our fish to smoke. It was all lovely and even our non fish eater was kept happy with the crispy chicken balls. We ate some of our catch freshly smoked but the rest became 3 meals in the days that followed.
Totally recommended. A not to be missed experience.

The best thing to do in the Nelson/Tasman region by far! OK you have to pay for your salmon if you catch one but it is well worth it. A fun experience for kids and adults alike. And they cook your salmon for you. Delicious! Let's hope the devastation of winter 2013 is fixed soon.

Absolutely delicious smoked salmon for dinner that we caught ourselves but didn't have to clean, fillet or cook. The slow biting salmon were instantly interested in our hook when we threw them some pellets purchased for $2 and shared with 2 other fishing parties.
