“Heaven on earth”
Reviewed February 1, 2013

We stayed 3 nights in one of the Beachfront cottages and had an amazing time. The weather was just great and the cottage itself is beautiful and well decorated. When we arrived there was a warm genuine welcome. When i mentioned my name, the staff did know the name of my girlfriend already and we were clearly expected.

In the cottage there is a very nice 2 person jacuzi, a fully equiped kitchen, a BBQ, a big bedroom, bank and chairs, dining table and chairs, TV, Wifi, 3 sets of 2 different chairs on a private deck and most important of all, a fantastic view of the sea.

From our bedroom window we can look directly at the empty beach. The way the moonlight reflects in the water at night is amazing and also the sunrise is very beautiful.

The owners are very helpful and did know our names still when we met them, which is very attentive. The homemade muesli is awesome and when we mentioned that, we were presented with the recipe so we can make it at home.

The homemade yoghurt is lovely too, just like the homegrown vegetables and fruit that are offered.

Located in between Abel Tasman NP and Kuharangi NP, its a nice place to stay if you want to visit both parks (like we did).

Its pricy, thats true, but its worth it.

Room Tip: If you have to chose, the Beachfront cottages are the best, better than the Beachview ones (not that...

When we stepped into the Honeymoon Cottage and were both moved to tears we knew we had found something special. We had been in New Zealand for six days and had seen some spectacular view own but this setting was perfect. The patio opened to a pristine lawn leading down to a deserted beach and a beautiful blue sea. We had four nights here and felt we had found our own piece of paradise in this heavenly country!

Room Tip: The honeymoon cottage is pick of the bunch leading directly onto the beach with interrupted views of...

This is it -- the ultimate beachfront retreat, the justification for traveling halfway around the world. From the beautifully designed bungalows to the outstanding views and laid-back Golden Bay ambience, Adrift has it all. Sumptuous breakfast baskets, a well-appointed kitchen and private courtyard BBQ is part of the package. (We cooked one of the best meals of our trip on that grill). We stayed in the Honeymoon Cottage, surrounded by greens and flowers, just steps to the bay which is in full view from living room and bedroom. Worth the splurge ... Five stars is not enough! Thank you, Gordon, Bess, and family, for sharing your slice of paradise.

So glad you thought of Adrift as being “the ultimate beachfront retreat”. We are always developing it from the point of view of being a place where we ourselves would like to stay, but also to reflect the laid-back atmosphere of Golden Bay whilst giving a five-star retreat experience. Thanks for taking the time to write your review.

It's hard to heap more praise on Adrift than has already been said. Sometimes you get to a place to find it somehow doesn't quite live up to the Tripadvisor, that it's been over hyped, or things have changed. Not so with Adrift, all the superlatives used in the reviews are true, but words alone can't do the reality of the place justice - its better than that. You just have to go to experience it for yourself.

All I would add is that Gordon and Bess are lovely lovely people. Bess asked us what they could do to improve, as they were always striving to, but we really can't think of anything major (maybe take away the TV, tell the sand flies to leave NZ, and guarantee perfect weather). Highlights: the cottage, furnishings, big fold-back doors to the deck, scrumptious breakfasts, BBQ, sea view, beautiful grounds, the beach at sunset, the list goes on. It just left us with such a feeling of peace and tranquility, and we will be sure to come back.

Room Tip: Thanks to excellent planning from Gordon, you can still see the beach from the rear cottages. Take...

About a 3 1/2 hour drive from the interislander ferry, you come to Shangra la.
Adrift is in a peaceful large plot, beautifully maintained, exceptionally fitted out, with hosts that
bend over backwards to help. l made a school girl error in booking, and they worked with me to
get us there, l can't say thank you enough. There are plenty of good places to eat, and easy to find provisions if you want to cook yourself (there is even a BBQ). There are great places close at hand to visit, as well as peeking at the blue penguin chicks on the property.
lf l ever go back to NZ, this will be the first place l book. lt was like being at home, with friends,
but with privacy.
Thank you Gordon and Beth. Your bit of heaven was one of the highlights of our vacation.
l am thankful l found you.

Room Tip: We were at a second line cabin, and were really happy with our situation. l don't think there...

Adrift was the most peaceful place I have ever visited. The clean, comfortable accommodations were complimented by the lush gardens and beautiful surroundings. You can walk for miles on the very private beach or simply listen to the waves as the tide changes. Bess and Gordon are respectful, quiet hosts who know the surrounding area well if you need some sightseeing tips. I hope to make it back to this paradise someday soon.
