Owner description: Golden Bay Kayaks is one of the best little kayak companies in New Zealand, situated in one of the best kayaking destinations in the world, which is why it is such a popular destination for all kayakers from beginners to the more experienced. They specialise in kayak rentals for a half day, full day or the popular 'paddle the length of the Abel Tasman', the only company that will allow this. The Guided tours are a simple, no fuss, high value experience where the personal touch makes the half day spent on the water a memorable experience. Perfect for those that have not kayaked before or very little or for those keen to learn about the Northern end of the Abel Tasmans rich history, geology and wildlife. Stand Up Paddle boards available and the easily accessible Tata Islands is a fantastic destination to explore the close up nature of islands. They are the closest sea kayak company to the Abel Tasman National Park. An extra bonus at the end(or start) of the day is the great coffee and ice cream....PERFECT!

“Brilliant trip. Great guide. Stunning landscapes.”
Reviewed December 22, 2013

I did the guided tour with 2 boys aged 12 and 14. We travelled in a tandem and one of the boys went with Paul, a wonderful guide who I highly recommend. We had a great trip in gorgeous, calm conditions. The gear was good and the instructions excellent. Stopped for morning tea, which was delicious. Saw a seal, many sting rays and birds. Part of the trip back was harder going for us because we were kayak novices, but we managed fine. I would not attempt with kids in strong winds. Highly recommended.

Thanks for taking the time to write a review and glad you had a wonderful time with your boys. We love seeing families out on the water enjoying the surrounds. We only operate if the weather is perfect, if does turn we have systems in place to make it a safe and happy experience. Thanks again!

“Lovely family run business”
Reviewed December 6, 2013

This is a fab place to visit. The guide, Paul, was knowledgeable, friendly, relaxed and enthusiastic. The kit was good and I felt safe and confident in the kayak. Paul was a good host as he brought cookies and brew...always appreciated.

“Fabulous family activity”
Reviewed October 7, 2013

We did the 1/2day guided family trip and had a great time! Our guide was fabulous, the gear good quality, well maintained and we felt safe at all times. Our 3 kids are aged 14,12 and 8 and they all had fun. Would recommend this trip to any family. TOTALLY worth the money this will be a stand-out memory for your family forever.

“Enchanting Tasman Paddle”
Reviewed April 26, 2013

We visited New Zealand for over 2 months and this kayak trip was one of the highlights. We hired kayaks and gear for an independent 2 day paddle with an overnight camp on spectacular Mutton Cove beach and a shuttle back to Golden Bay. We got all that plus Tony...fantastic chap, who took time to insure our safety and comfort with the adventure, mapped out all the sights along the way, complete with engaging stories. His enthusiasm for the splendor of the area was infectious. Golden Bay Kayaks is a top notch professional company with a friendly personal feel. We had fantastic paddling among the sculpted rocks, ogled colorful sea bottoms through crystal clear water, explored sandbanks, bluffs, deserted beaches, caves, watched abundant bird life and seals, swam and snorkeled...completely unspoiled by water taxi travel and day tourists. It was magic. An excellent way to see the REAL Abel Tasman. We highly recommended Golden Bay Kayaks to everyone we met along our travels.
