Owner description: Golden Bay Kayaks is one of the best little kayak companies in New Zealand, situated in one of the best kayaking destinations in the world, which is why it is such a popular destination for all kayakers from beginners to the more experienced. They specialise in kayak rentals for a half day, full day or the popular 'paddle the length of the Abel Tasman', the only company that will allow this. The Guided tours are a simple, no fuss, high value experience where the personal touch makes the half day spent on the water a memorable experience. Perfect for those that have not kayaked before or very little or for those keen to learn about the Northern end of the Abel Tasmans rich history, geology and wildlife. Stand Up Paddle boards available and the easily accessible Tata Islands is a fantastic destination to explore the close up nature of islands. They are the closest sea kayak company to the Abel Tasman National Park. An extra bonus at the end(or start) of the day is the great coffee and ice cream....PERFECT!

We started off complete beginners and after 4 hours felt we had achieved so much. A really unforgetable experience.

Tony and Lisa are great hosts and we had a fantastic guide in Paul. We rang late evening the night before and Tony was able to accommodate our party of 7.

We did the half day guided tour and travelled from Nelson as part of a day trip. Most tours are in the mornings due to more favourable conditions but we were lucky with the weather on the day and had a 1pm booking.

The drive from Nelson to Takaka is about 1.5hours and Tata Beach where the kayak tour is another 20mins from there. The drive over the Takaka region has some nice vistas so a morning meander in Takaka and brunch was had before our day. we even squeezed in a short trip to Pupu Springs or Waikoropupu which has beautiful crystal clear water and well worth the 10min drive from takaka.

the kayaks are in quality condition and our 3.5+hours was great value which was accompanied by afternoon tea.

highly recommended!!!!

We went on a half day guided tour. Our guide, Tui was excellent and very informative. We thoroughly enjoyed our morning, the coffee and cakes on the beach were most unexpected, but very welcome!

We have just returned from a 3 day Freedom trip and it has been one the highlights of our holiday in NZ. Neither of us had kyacked before but had good knowledge of the sea, tides and weather. The briefing was very thorough but fun And really good advice was given on how best to manage our trip.
The trip was wonderful, with seals, beautiful scenery, stingrays, perfect campsites and the weather was good to.
The support from Tony and Lisa was excellent. We were so glad we chose GBK, because they are small it made us feel like they really cared about the experience we were having.
