“Short Break”
Reviewed September 4, 2013

My partner and I went for a short break to Wales and stayed at the Gwesty Ty Gorsaf Hotel - This hotel was out in a Welsh Slate Valley and the views surrounding the Hotel are absolutely stunning and within the Snowdonia National Park. We were very impressed with the reception from Staff and Manager of the Hotel Jon Craven who made us feel very welcome and could not do enough for us. The room we were given was on the top floor was very clean and spacious with a good view of the surrounding Mountains and also the local station that has a steam train. We had evening meal which was second to none and the breakfast was plentiful. I would not hesitate to recommend a stay at this hotel and we will most definitely be visiting the Hotel again in the future

I stayed at the hotel in August with my family. The hotel is perfectly located in the centre of town, right next to the Railway Station. Our room was beautiful, newly renovated, huge bed and everything we needed. Breakfast was gorgeous, plenty of choice. The evening main meals were beautifully cooked and a la carte. The desserts were to die for, especially their pina colada cheesecake, yum yum! Staff were very friendly. Would definitely return.

The hotel is in a stunning location, surrounded by mountains and re-named Pontypandy by my young grandson, (after Fireman Sam's home town). The hotel offers reasonable value for money, with very helpful staff and large comfortable bedrooms. Let down by niggles which could be easily resolved, such as a broken toilet roll holder, no hairdryer, broken TV remote and broken lock on toilet door. The evening meal was reasonable value, but my wife's meal arrived 20 minutes after the others. The breakfast was excellent.

Room Tip: Not by the road, because of noisy revellers.

We stayed in the Ty Gorsaf as a family Mid-August 2013. We chose it as a central location to explore Snowdonia but the location actually let us down. Although the hotel is right next to the Ffestiniog railway, it is unfortunately the focal point for the drunken people and party revellers at night, disturbed our sleep all the nights! The manager, Jon, and his staff are very helpful and very accomodating and the breakfast excellent so cannot fault these at all. However, I would not recommend this for families with small children. BTW- rooms on the first floor suffer from noise from pub below so avoid.

Excellent food/drink. Just needs a chair inj bedroom and grab handle over bath to make perfect. Parking not a problem as lay by on far side of road if you do not wish to pay for Council car parking.

Certainly improved from its former life as Queens Hotel.

Room Tip: No lift - so choose first floor!

Stayed here for two nights, enroute to the coast. The hotel is fine, but actual town is a bit rough. Lots of drunken people shouting and swearing on a night time, who all gather at the front of the hotel annoyingly. Girl who checked us in was helpful and very kind. Room alright, just a bit dusty. Aside from the views the town has nothing going for it. No nice places to eat, other than the hotel, and just full of dreary concrete. A shame but there it is.

Stayed for 4 nights 15-19 August. Great base for discovering Snowdonia. Parking was fine despite some previous reviews and parked every night in free laybys outside and opposite hotel and car was visible from the room. Room itself was very large and comfortable, and the breakfasts were something to look foward to, even if service was a little slow at times the quality of the food was very good and we ate in 2 nights out of the 4 in hotel restuarant. Would recommend this hotel and stay again if visiting the area.

Room Tip: chose room at back of hotel if possible as you can hear a few drunks walking past on Friday/Saturday...
