First thing to note is that Kumagera is part of the Furano local food group. So all food is the locally sourced produce which Furano is known for.
The restaurant has both bar style seating and private tables. We booked a table but would have been fine as a walk-in however it was -20 celsius and quite early so probably a bit quiter than usual.
Staff were very friendly and helpful with reasonable English. They will provide English menus but I believe these are limited in number which generally shouldn't be an issue.
We went here as a last minute decision. Although somewhat more expensive than other options, it was fairly well priced. They have a great range of food including traditional Japanese food, hot pots and Chinese inspired dishes.
There are also a few interesting things on the menu to entice the adventurous eater. Ie. roast bear, Chinese style jellyfish and tofu cheese.
To be honest the rest of the meal paled in comparison to the thrill of trying the crunchy jellyfish but that seems reasonable. I had a tempura set and my partner had the katsu set. Both which were fine for the price, nothing special though. I did watch the couple sitting nearby enviously though as they cooked up a nabe hotpot.
Highly recommend trying the local umeshu which quickly became one of my favourite drinks.
