(We were here in Late July 2016 indeed, which was a good time to visit Hokkaido and you can see lavender and sunflowers)

It's one of the best hotels ever! You can see a amazing lavender field from the big glass window at your room!

Don't forget to drive a golf car around the big beautiful garden! It's a romantic hotel and we wish to come back!

Furano hotel is a famous fancy hotel in Hokkaido. The hotel has a hot spring, restaurant, and bar. The guests can drink almost all alcohols and juices at the bar for free. Moreover, there is a beautiful large garden next to the hotel, and you can look around as driving an electric car which can be used in the hotel. We could stay wonderful time in Furano hotel except one thing…
We ordered a glass of wine at the dinner, and it was really delicious. The stuff told us that we could buy the same kind of wine at the front desk. When we checked-out, we bought the wine for $80. After leaving the hotel, we stopped by a market. Then, we found that kind of wine sold for $25!!! Can you believe that?!? It determined us never to buy any souvenir at a hotel again.

By far the BEST hotel I've been to in Furano!

Excellent food, excellent service, excellent hotel environment. The onsens and hot stone bath were very enjoyable, too! There's nothing to find fault with no matter how hard you try. If you enjoy refinement, this is your place!

For skiers, it's not situated right next to the run like the New Furano Prince Hotel. By car, it's about 5 minutes away from the Furano and Kitanomine runs (in winter snow traffic). For me, that hardly inconvenienced my 4-day family skiing trip at all.

There's only one word of warning for non-Japanese speakers. Some of the staff didn't speak very much English. I suppose in our age of Google Translate on mobile, that's hardly a problem for anyone.

I've read some reviews complaining about the place not having wi-fi. I wonder how many visitors nowadays go to Japan go without a DoCoMo data SIM card. I went to Furano to switch off and go offline. Anyone else choosing to go there to switch on and go online is entirely a personal choice (and a very weird one too!)

So, just go and enjoy. You won't go wrong!

Positive Side
-Great dinner with great services. Despite the chef and the servant did not speak English, they managed to present their profession and sincerity through the whole dining process.
-The gentleman at the bar is beyond excellent! Noticed my niece did not drink alcohol, he initiatively make another non-alcohol drink for her after she finished her first glass of juice while the rest of us are still enjoying drinks. Truly one nice touch .

Down Side
-Bloody duvet Cover!!!
It’s true! And it was not just a small stain or spot, the bloody stain covers around 20 x 15 cm on the duvet Cover. It was hard, till now, I still felt unbelievable that such thing could happened to a self-recognized high end hotel, likedフラノ寶亭留. And honestly, this is the first time I’ve ever encountered a situation like this and I could say that I’d probably stayed around 50-60 different hotels/resorts/inn/B&B over the past 10 years. And that was the first time and I do sincerely hope that would be the last time I ever have to experience thing’s like that.
-If the bloody duvet cover was not shocking enough, the lack of communication and attentiveness after the bloody duvet cover incident, was totally beyond imagination and out of my expectation, again, especially when it happened to a self-recognized, as well as it’s charged, high end hotel, likedフラノ寶亭留. Of course the hotel staff apologized and changed an unstained duvet cover for us, but, that’s all! Yes, that was all! We were not expecting compensations or any extraordinary treatment after the incident, but, again, but, one greeting should be not too much to ask, right? But, no. Not a single greeting from the hotel staffs had we ever received during the whole stay until I can’t help to ask the front desk manager if she was aware of the incident last night when we’re checking out. And yes, she was. However, no gesture nor a greeting word had we ever received till then. I can’t help wonder, if that kind of incident was considered normal to the hotel? Is that why no one in that hotel had ever approached us for greeting or comforting during the entire stay?
-No lotion provided in room or onsen area. The amenities provided in onsen area seemed mostly sponsored by different suppliers for customer testing, so the products were not in line and completed. A great contrary to a local business hotel I stayed in June in Toyama, Japan. From the amenities prepared, you can tell if the hotel is treating their guests with their upmost sincerity even if you did not personally get in touch with them.

I once read a review about フラノ寶亭 on the internet, the subscriber expressed her regret for the hotel did not get a five star rating on a certain ranking system. After this staying and the experiences after that, I can say I totally understand why it was not rated as a five star hotel, even though it charged liked one. The hotel did also conduct paper survey on it’s facilities and services, but I didn’t see it work as not a single word nor message were delivered after I describe the same pros and cons as above on the paper survey. It could be because the hotel staffs were not capable in communication in English(at least the ones we encountered during the whole stay).

I still believe, if you’re a foreigner, who does not speak Japanese, and you did not encountered any incident in this hotel, you’ll get a very satisfying stay, but, on the other hand…….you know what I mean. Fingers cross!

We stayed 1 night in the western style room and opt for the teppanyaki dinner.

Reception was good - they will help you unload, check in in front of the gd view of lavender field and serve you sweets and drinks. Such is the service of an excellent ryokan/ hotel in Japan

The dinner was one of the best we had for this trip. The beef and fried rice was so well cooked, we finished them all even when we were so way too full (rice is the last dish before dessert). The irony was eating the rice make us feel like we could finish them all. We were the only guest that had it so the chef was only cooking for us. He waited between each meal to finish before he started cooking the next.

We had some small talk with the chef in my broken Japanese and he found out that we were having our honeymoon. During dessert, the waitress brought us an extra plate of tower dessert not from the course from the chef to congratulate us. That is what I call 2 thumbs up for the service for going the extra mile.

If you are going during peak season, book the rooms early (at least 3 months ahead). If you book directly from the hotel like I do, payment is made when you check out but for foreigner, they will require your credit card details about 1 month before your stay. If you do not reply, you booking will be cancelled.
