If you come to El Castillo make sure to visit. The covered cafe with outdoor Gym is unique. Smiley staff a bonus. It is classy and cool and most unexpected in this freindly little jungle town

Having read the other reviews, I'm very disappointed that we didn't have a meal here. The atmosphere was great as was the service and the coffee, which we returned for several times. Also the best ergonomically designed cups and saucers I've ever come across! Perhaps the name Borders Cafe, rather than Borders Restaurant didn't help! I'd love to live in El Castillo, and if I ever return, will make a bee-line for Borders for meal!

Jamil is the owner and an excellent cook. We had a group of 15 in El Castillo for a week and ate most of our meals here. He varied his menu, paid attention to food allergies, and made sure even the pickiest of eaters had a meal!
Jamil grows many of the vegetables he cooks with, so the food you eat was probably growing just a few minutes before it ended up on your plate!

Most importantly, if you like chocolate, you must try the shake. (His mochacino is amazing too!)

Loved this place! Went here as it was the only vegetarian option in the Lonely planet and it was more than that. Organic and very tastefull, also the shake was lovely. The owner was next to that very knowledgable about the area and even on how to get where in Costa Rica. Big recommendation!

Made from local chocolate, with delicious bits. Not too sweet, deliciously chocolatey and refreshing in the heat!
