I spent there one night in October '11, while on my way to Algonquin Park.
The room was clean and the owners were just doing the impossible to make us be at ease :-)
Of course the view on the lake and the possibilty to perform activities was a plus for us..as we were not going to stay there for long..yet I still perfectly remember the accomodation and the very friendly support, after so long.

It's a pleasure to leave a good comment :-)

I stayed at the Highlands Motel last night and couldn't wait to write a positive review. Everything about the place - the nicely decorated rooms, the lodge for heating up dinner or making a full meal, the iPod Dock and free Wi-Fi, the friendly helpful hosts, the comfortable beds, the close proximity to the lake - was just right. It is the ideal motel for someone who wants to stay in a nice, clean place and not get gouged by high prices.

My husband and I had the great pleasure of staying at The Highlands Motel in Minden, Ontario this past weekend (March 3-4, 2012). It was our home base for our weekend away snowmobiling. My husband had stayed here previously and liked it so much that he wanted to go back with me. He was certainly not disappointed the second time and I was very impressed with my first stay. There is a lot to recommend this hotel!

First - the location is perfect. It is very close to everything you would want - shopping, gas, snowmobile trails and beautiful scenery!

Second - the hotel itself. The rooms are very comfortable and tastefully decorated. The beds are super comfortable and there is plenty of hot water (which all snowmobilers know is very important after a day/night on the trails). There is also a lodge that you can hang out in if you don't want to stay in your room. There is a full kitchen complete with stove, microwave and dishes if you decide not to eat at a restaurant. Everything is impeccably clean, warm and welcoming.

Third - the owners, Dora and Paul! They run a great hotel and their pride in the property is evident everywhere. The parking lot is kept clean by Paul and his snowblower and the pathways are clear of snow. There is ample parking for cars, snowmobiles and trailers. The hotel is only a half block away from the lake (for those of you who want to go fishing for ice!). Paul and Dora are warm and welcoming to all of their guests. When we were there, a guest had misplaced his cell phone. I watched as Dora went back to the room he stayed in to search for it and also checked the parking lot. She then called him to let him know that she had not found the cell phone but luckily for him, he had! This just shows how much they care for their customers! They spend time interacting with their guests and showing a genuine interest in them. They know the area very well and have trail and road maps available along with lots of information about the area.

We have not yet had the pleasure of staying at the Highlands in the spring/summer but we are going for sure! We have to decide what room to request the next time - one of the rooms in the main building, the cabin or the loft that Paul is in the process of finishg with natural pine from the area.

A special thank you to Paul and Dora for making our stay so great. We can't wait to come back again soon! We will definitely recommend this to our family and friends.

Well a rating like this can certainly cause the weak hearted proprietor to seek comfort in a couple of gallons of Kawartha dairy ice cream or worse…. All jokes aside, we, at The Highlands Motel have gone to great lengths to ensure that our property and what it has to offer is accurately described on our website and during telephone conversations with potential guests. Our website has plenty of pictures of the entire property and of each and every one of our rooms. Guests are able make a choice based on the pictures and book suitable rooms accordingly. The overwhelming majority of our guests would agree with the fact that The Highlands Motel has never pretended to be anything but a quality, well maintained alternative to the higher-end resorts and inns in the Haliburton area. We understand that reviews and ratings are subjective but still find such low rating extremely unfair. Whenever we are unable to meet a potential guest’s accommodations needs we are happy to refer them to suitable alternatives in the area, which we have done in the past and would have been happy to do so in the case of this reviewer as well. Our goal is not just to make sure that you leave our property as a happy customer, but that we are able to create a positive experience for everyone we come in contact with who is visiting the Haliburton Highlands regardless of where they end up staying.

ending a 800mile snowmobile trip, and were welcomed by a great couple. Drove us by their car to get supplies for breakfast the next morning and let us use their shop to repair one of our sleds. Chocolates on the pillows added a great touch

Room Tip: all rooms clean and cozy

Thank you so much to Paul and Dora for a fabulous weekend! You have never met a friendlier couple. Extremely clean, recently renovated. A beautiful motel and I will definitely go back! Snowmobile trail at the door. Drive right from your room. Good food nearby. Bonus clubhouse for mingling after a long day on the trail. It just doesn't get any better than this. Will definitely go back and recommend highly to all those considering a weekend getaway. The Rideout family!

Great place to stay (I have been there with family and friends in all seasons). Clean, comfortable beds, good TV reception and fast internet connection, quiet, well maintained, outgoing, friendly owners, decent places to eat nearby year round. Owners keep on working constantly on their property improving this and that. Cottage (a great choice for up to 4) has its own fully equipped kitchen. Recreation cottage open to all guests is very spacious. It has a fully equipped kitchen (water currently runs slowly), Big TV with DVD player and a bar. Great for largish party, but in winter, the cottage is slow to heat up and could be a bit cold. The motel rooms and sleep-in cottage are fine year round. I have been coming to this area for a few years, staying in several places in different seasons. This is now the place I choose when I go there. The best value around in my view

Room Tip: Go for the Cabin if you can
