Managed to book in at the last minute to escape from a very wet, cold and windy Valllehermosa. Playa Callera was excellent, lovely apartment, very quiet, wonderful breakfasts and good service. The deposit ,returnable for a wi fi modem in your room is excellent.this Hotel seems to know exactly what is needed to make a stay there a pleasure

Room Tip: Sea view is best but an extra 4euros and all the rooms are very good.

Spacious, light, clean, comfortable room, excellent bathroom and bed, plenty of storage space - everything you could want and at a very reasonable price.
Whoever designed the rooms clearly stays in hotels him/herself and knows what's important (eg when you open a cupboard, an internal light comes on, so you can easily find clothes). The rooms have lounge/dining areas with fridge and hob, coffee makers, crockery and cutlery and outside terrace. Also friendly helpful Receptionist, good breakfast, easy access to our car in the free hotel underground car park, swimming pool and sun loungers on the roof.
If I were about to build an hotel, I would hire the Architect who designed this one.
We went whale watching but Valle Gran Rey seems to be a good area for walking. There are severel good local restaurants, particularly Christies. We will be back!

The hotel is on the seafront, although vertically so that the sea is to the shore mostly visible from the roof. The rooms are great equipped with balconies endweder the courtyard on the neighboring hotel. Breakfast is good, coffee strong and tastes great. Dinner can save you, and because of the many restaurants in the vicinity seems to me to be a pity to eat at the hotel.

My wife and I stayed ther over new year. Hotel has lovely roof top pool
and is in a great location
There's an extra charge for room safe €18 p week is greedy as hotel is not cheap
and wifi only works in lobby no phone coverage in bedroom. Breakfast is only fair. To say the bar is quiet ...I asked for a glass of wine at 10.40 pm new year eve and was told it was closed.
I would go back to la Calera, but I think I'd try other hotels.

Excellent staff and beautiful modern-style hotel, with a HUGE room including kitchenette. Superb buffet breakfast. Very helpful reception staff. Only a short distance to the beach at Playa Ingles. Lots of great shops close by.

The playa calera is nestled at the end of the spectacular Valle gran rey in the quiet resort of the same name..and that's what you get:quiet
The hotel is a modern and very spacious affair with huge rooms and a fantastic roof pool and very efficient and friendly staff that is mainly patronised by well heeled Germans (good sign in my book)
The location is excellent with the sea and beach on one side and the mountains on the other.
If you are looking for lively night life and 'animation team' style entertainment then forget la gomera but if you're after peace and quiet in a beautiful setting then la calera is a gem
Pros: setting, hotel facilities, ambiance
Cons: limited bars and restaurants

We stayed for 3 nights over New Year at the end of a walking holiday. This area of Val Gran Rey was just lovely. A sheltered beach on one side, a rocky / wavy nudist beach on the other and a mini resort with restaurants shops in between. It's about a mile stroll along the front to the ferry to San Sebastian, Playa Santiago or Los Christianos (in Tenerife). The hotel is a little out of place in the surroundings. Slightly too big/ tall / corporate. However the pool on the roof is a great place to swim watching the colours change on the mountains and sea as the sun sets. The rooms were a nice surprise - very spacious, good quality furniture, huge comfy beds and a kitchen. We lucked out with a terrace where you could see and hear the sea. The front of the hotel could do with softening up with greenery and maybe a water feature. We booked half board but changed our mind when we got there. We were allowed to change the booking to bed and breakfast which was good. No complaints with the breakfast. The hotel put on dancing, fizz and party bags for midnight on New Year's Eve which was appreciated. There is free wifi but it only works in the reception.
