It's a bit of a challenge to find contact information for Bambu... but it was well worth it. When we arrived, Nemo had to leave for a couple of days for personal reasons, but he waited for us before leaving and left us in the care of a friend. Nemo was a perfect host before leaving town; a genuinely nice, friendly, relaxed guy. We had to cut our stay short with one night versus what we planned (and reserved) and he was very cool about it. We stayed in the palapa that he normally occupies himself during off-season and it was just fantastic. It's made entirely of bamboo, it has a great balcony overlooking palm trees and the ocean. You go to sleep and wake up with the crash of the ocean (don't expect to hear the 'ocean breeze', the surf has a punch to it here in San Agustinillo) and you experience the wonderful feeling of sleeping outside, in the open air. Location is good too; a bit outside the 'center' (what's in a name), with a convenient store right across the street, and the main beach (where it's safe to swim) only a short walk away. If you're looking for luxury or 'spotless clean', Mambu is probably not the place for you. If you're looking for an authentic experience of sleeping right by the beach, it's paradise.

San Agustinillo is paradise, if you ask me. It's a small, quiet, unhappening place. Everyone's smiling when you drive into town, and it doesn't take long to figure out why. The beach and surroundings are still pretty much unspoiled nature. The perfect antidote for the large beach resort towns... for as long as it lasts. One important point; make sure you bring enough cash, closest ATM is a 40 minutes (one-way) cab ride away... we found out the hard way ;-)

PS. You can contact Nemo at memobambu@yahoo.com

We arrived with little expectation in May of 2011, and were thrilled to find this adorable little collection of bungalows. As the hotel was mostly full, we were actually placed in the largest ´palapa´, an incredible oliver-twist extravaganza entirely of bamboo. Memo was incredibly nice and friendly, a great host. We had a Beautiful balcony overlooking the ocean with rocking chairs and hammock. We felt completely safe and it was really peaceful. The beach right in front is great, not crowded, and with nice hammocks and beach chairs to use. The communal outside kitchen was low-tech but functional, and we could walk to several other little cafes and restaurants. A little out of town, but if you´re looking for romantic and peaceful, this is the spot! (NOTE: There are no ATMS in town, so come prepared!). They seem to be always busy, so book early!

We stayed here the last week in Feb 2011. We were fortunate enough to get one of the two upper "palapa" rooms facing the beach. Ask for one of these when you make a reservation. It was wonderful a big balcony that looked out to the ocean and across to the point in San Agustinillo with palm trees sticking up through the balcony floor. The two walls facing the beach surrounding the bedroom had sliding doors so you could open them wide. The mornings were amazing looking out onto the beach, while still in bed. The mosquito net (after some work to tie up a few holes) did the trick so we could sleep with the cool night breeze. The bathroom tended to attract a few mosquitos, because it was damp, but we found that we could set up the fan and keep them out.
Having the shared kitchen was great. It was easy to make breakfast and linger on our balcony. There is a store just across the street from Bambu that has all the essentials: bread, eggs, fruit. So that made it really easy. The kitchen also made it easy to meet others staying at Bambu. We arrived when the owner was out of town and at first the shared kitchen was looking a bit tired from so much sharing. But the first morning he was back in town he sorted and cleaned everything out. This is a super laid back chill place, with nice unique features.
San Agustinillo was a great spot to hang out for a week or so a nice mix of young people, families and retired folks.

Room Tip: Ask for one of the Palapas- the upper rooms with balconies facing the beach.

We came in late afternoon without reservations and got a nice ground floor room about 15 meters from the beach. Only problem was that they were full for the next several days, so we had to move the next day. We came back the next week and stayed for 3 days in the same room. What can I say, the place is in a beautiful location, the owner is friendly and helpful, and the accommodations are perfect for the reasonable price.

We met with the owner late when we arrived. He gave us a great weekly deal and we had the nicest room with beach access. It was safe, clean and the staff were excellent. Highly recommended to go with your partner and just get out of the big city life.

We stayed about a week with our 9 m. old baby in 'La casa del problecito Memo'. The cabanas are beautiful made with bambus, woods and natural materials. The owner Memo is great, very helpful and 'tranquilo'. The beach area is just perfect with hammocks, chairs, tables and shades. All you need shower, kitchen, a shop to buy all your needs are just few meters away.

Room Tip: upstair with the large balcony facing the sea
