“Best Resort in Siargao”
Reviewed March 13, 2011

We had a great time when we stayed here last September. We were picked up in the pier by a really cool safari like car. The place is very affordable and the service is great. The resort staff is very friendly and nice and they will ensure that they will make you feel pampered. I recommend that you try the yohoho trip with unlimited rhum, beer, juice, soda and a 10-course meal. It made our stay in Siargao memorable and fun. I would definitely recommend this place to my friends.

I was very surprised to see the harsh reviews on Patrick's - we had a great time and great service while we were there. We were actually booked at Island Dream Resort which had much better accommodations but terrible service and none of the "perks" that Patrick's had - beach front, motorcycle rentals, tours, great staff ect. First, the rooms are nipa huts and you are in a 3rd world country AND on a very remote island in the Philippines - so you can't really expect 5 star accommodations. Especially when you are paying $30-40 a night. If you want that - stay at Kalinaw and pay $150+night. The food is fantastic. They have a very interesting menu with a lot of choices for the Philippines as well. I recommend the Chicken Mango Curry and the crepes with jungle honey. As for comments that it's overpriced - the food is cheap by North America or European standards. The staff is incredible - always willing to help and smiling and saying hello. The manager Nettie makes you feel like you are staying in her home and all of your needs are taken care of. Your rooms are not automatically cleaned everyday but if you want something in the Philippines and/or at Patrick's - all you have to do is ask and they will make it happen. The tours were great and extremely organized and everything happened very quickly - which it very good for the Philippines! Some rooms are a bit louder than others - mostly from the roosters in the morning but this will be the case at any resort in Siargo.

Beware of whingers in posts who seem to have a personal agenda. My wife and I stayed in the beachfront cottage with aircon and satellite tv in September 2010, we found the resort EXACTLY as advertised, we had no problems or complaints, the staff and the host Andreas were friendly and made us feel very welcome. The website tells you everything you need to know before you get there, read and research before you come then you wont get any surprises like some of these reviewers claim. Food and service was excellent, 24 hours per day if you need it, nothing was any trouble. We enjoyed a boat trip to Guam Island, they even came back with our lunch. We will be back in 2012 to stay a bit longer, we are planning to bring my wife's family over there for a few days. Totally recommended for a getaway break.

As even by Lonely Planet recommended, I thought it's a good place to stay for a few days!

No, definetly, not, it isn't!!!

This place was bought 8 years ago by an old german guy, called Andreas, who gave the name Patricks to this place....since this time he didn't invest a single peso into his resort, which must have been already run down at the time he bought it. Feel the smell of the rooms..../Room with AC was "reduced" onyl 1800 Peso/day instead of 2100, very gentle from Andreas in low season..place is crowded mostly by usa and aussie surferboys between the age of 50-60yrs, mostly appearing with their long term girlfriend brought along from manila, so u feel like a little like in every manila girlie bar. Andreas aka Patrick is a very annoying person, always around you, trying to introduce his life philosophy to you, which actually is none;) All his touristic services are pretty overpaid!!!
My room wasn't cleaned for one time in a 6 day stay period, even it's a noisy place where workers around start at 6 o'clock in the morning!

One good thing to mention is the friendly staff, preparing good food for reasonable prices.

conclusion; stay away, more better and cheaper place are around, and safe your cash for better belongings!

Disadvantages:
1) really you should check all your bills. It seems a big problem for that hotel as I am not the first one who notices it. Strange that Andreas (owner) still didn't fix it inside his staff. The problem for me was that several times the girls-waitresses calculated wrongly the bill for the food and it was really unpleasantly. After first time I had to check the bills each time, but they continued doing mistakes. Once she did it wrong twice in a row for the same bill after I showed her the first mistake! I think they are really bad in arithmetics, this made me thinking like this one case when one of the bills was calculated even in my favor.
2) very high prices on any kind of excursions (like boat or land tours), usually u have to pay min 2000 PHP for person to take a part there. In Alona beach where I was few days before tour prices were cheaper.
3) staff there quite lazy - I had to remind almost every day to clean my room.

Anyway, I really liked staying at this hotel, despite of these 3 disadvantages, it was really nice time there. Andreas appeared to be a nice person, he did a really good proposal to me: first he allowed me to move to another cottage with same ocean view but for much cheaper price, and he did a really good discount for our company for the package of water equipment renting, which I appreciated a lot.
Also this hotel has really nice place, near to GL and next door to Cherinicole, a huge choice of food and any activities, it's own boats and surf boards.

So finally I recommend to stay there, as infrastructure of this hotel is one of the best there. But there are still things to improve there.

A great place to stay just be careful with your money....the owner claims to run an orphanage no one has ever seen but accepts donations...claims to run a foundation to help the poorand accepts donations but no such foundation appears to exist...never signs a receipt in his own hand writng by the way since he is always "out of " them...being sued 9 ways to sunday but people who feel the have been wronged financially on the island....anyway nice place just remember what George Carlin said about god..." nice guy just don't give him any money "

the Cottages are small and relatively old...
When power cut they don't have generator and food in fridge is getting at "risk"...

They are very "commercial" if not to say demanding with their policies...When checking out there is an "invented Tax added to the bill on all items of 5% in my case...That is criminal! Because no Tax would apply from Government side...

I will not go back as there are plenty of alternatives to stay in neighborhood...
