“Great lodge by the sea”

A beautiful group of buildings in a beautiful setting. Ideal for kite surfing with the constant warm winds and the wide expanse of water, plus the option to go up the river into the mangroves by boat, or just chill on the beach. Wide variety of accomodation for any pocket plus a friendly and helpful staff, what more could you ask for

In January 2013 I have been 2 weeks in Mwazaro. It has been my third visit to this place and there are various good reasons to return there again and again. It's a secluded place with no disturbance from AI tourists ;-). No beachboys try to sell agressively their stuff (although you can still buy if you want) and the employees are just great people who are there to make your life easy. The accomodation is simple, but clean. And as you hardly spend any time insight (beside sleeping) you do not miss a TV or mini bar. It is easy to get in contact with the other guests as all eat at one big table and chat about what they've done during the day ... in the majority of the cases they have had great kite-sessions. Unfortunately, time flies there too and thus the two weeks have gone too fast. I'll come again!

I have been here for 3 weeks in August 2012 and it was a super experience. When I stepped out of the taxi, I was amazed with its beauty. Beautiful accommodation build from corralstone and palm tree just on a fantastic beach. All the people I met there, other guests, all the employees and of course Joerg and Jannet were super nice & friendly. If you need something, just ask and you will get it, great service! A nice feature is the long table were you will eat all together with the other guests, a nice way to meet other people! Of course the kiting was great, I learned a lot out there on/in the nice and warm water, if the wind is good you can kite in front of the lodge but most of the time (only in this season) we went with a boot to a close by sandbank were the wind is less gustier and a bit stronger. At this sandbank perfect conditions, un-deep water and you can choose flat-water or some waves. If you are done with kiting for the day I also recommend a nice massage! Jannet has some great spa skills! Those three weeks were magical for me, I hope it will bring you the same! greetings Frank (nl)

Excellent beach accommodation - there are several options: pitched tents, rooms and camping. Officially they no longer accept campers, but we were able to pitch our tents for three nights at 5 euros a night, and we had some meals at the lodge.

We checked out all the options in Shimoni town and found them all to be overpriced and/or shoddy. Mwazoro is away from the town, but motorcycle transport ('boda-boda') is easily arranged and cheap. The beach and lodge are beautiful, and there's no problem swimming in the sea. We organised a snorkeling safari to Kisite-Mpunguti national park with Pilli-pipa - highly recommended - and had an excellent night on the beers in Shimoni town.

We spent five days at Mwazaro in one of the Palm Cottages. Perfect location. Very quiet and peaceful. Lovely beach. Great food. Cottages are basic but charming - really nice to sleep hearing the waves outside. Can't wait to go back. Plenty to do if you want to - or easy to just sit and do nothing at all.

Location, location, location. This is a no frills enterprise. But thats just great for a zero technic place to stay. Very quiet.

Other places down the road in Shimoni are over rated, over priced, over touristy and crowds of local beach vendors tend to hang about like flies.
