“Shimoni Reef Lodge”
Reviewed September 7, 2012

We recently spent 2 days in one of the beautiful cottages at the Shimoni Reef, which were very spacious, clean & authentic. The staff were very friendly & the location is picturesque. There is a lovely pool & a small beach area. The hotel is situated at the end of the village & you really get to experience the real culture of Africa. We had a lovely stay! There isnt currently any air conditioning in the cottages but we found the fan was enough for us..

We stayed at this fantastic lodge for 3 days last week and want more!!!! Thank you to Rita (and Leila) and Sammy and Baccari for making our time with you so memorable. The Lobster you cooked was superb and the rest of the food fantastic as well.
The lodge is simple - if you are looking for plush surroundings you are on the wrong track - if you want taste and simplicity, a brilliant view and a home from home you will find it at Shimoni. We will be back THANK YOU!

Room Tip: They are all great - we had the last room next to the pool

The Shimoni Reef Lodge is absolutely lovely and a great place to go to when you want to have a quiet and relaxing time.
Service and food is very good and rooms are clean and spacious but basic without for example airconditioning but there are fan's to keep you cool. When you go to a place like Shimoni you mainly go to relax in an authentic environment.
They also have a lovely pool and we felt more then welcome by Rita and her staff who made our weekend very special! Thanks a lot guys!

Fantastic stay and end of our Kenyan experience. Couldn't thank the staff enough for such a wonderful time. The breakfast and dinner included in the price was of fantastic quality and freshness but the overall value for money was a little poor for the location and level of accommodation.

Hope to come back again.

We had a fantastic 3 days at Shimoni Reef Lodge and would like to say a big thank you to Rita, Sam and the rest of the staff who made every minute of our stay a pleasure. No request was denied and food was devine! Request the Ginger Crab for dinner one night and don't turn down a seafood platter!

We did think that the cost of the establishment was a little steep for the standard of accommodation and location (most of the prices for drinks and spa treatments were more than those in tourist areas of Mombasa and Diani - and the UK for that matter!). This needs to be readjusted. I think Shimoni Reef would be sold out all year round if the price was adjusted accordingly or vice versa Shimoni Reef needs a little more of a revamp to justify the prices.

For lunch stroll down to the sleepy town of Shimoni and visit Four Tables restaurant where you will be served 4 courses for around 200-300 shillings if you bargain down (as you always should!) if you're staying a further night at Shimoni Reef Lodge request a bespoke seafood meal the next day and Batty will sort it out for you.

Totally relaxing and tranquil...We hope to be visiting again!

We were in Shimoni during the month of March and we spend one night in this resort. The place is nice and it is the only decent accommodation in Shimoni so we decided to stay. At arrival the manager was very friendly to convince us to stay, they charged Euro 200 for 4 people in a house with two rooms and a living room, no A/C, the water from shower salted, the only thing it was big.
When I asked to talk to Mngr to ask for discount I was answered she was not available (too busy to drink with friends).
When we showed up for diner the manager and the friends having diner next to us did not even bother to answer our greetings, diner itself was scarce, very hot (chilli) and they did not serve the dessert because they run out (but the mngr and the friends were having chocolate mousse). Breakfast itself was very basic as well.
We felt the price we payed was a bit too much for what we got and the management attitude was very rude and unprofessional.

Both very experienced combined divers - travellers with an eye for unspoilt idilic places we have been in lots of places like the Middle East, Afrika and on the beaches of all oceans. Shimoni Reef Lodge was one of the best places we have ever been. The cottages were clean, spacious and with no phone, noisy AC or flatscreen the wakeup call came very natural from playing monkeys and the relaxing sound of the sea. I had the warm water of the pool all to myself before i had a healthy breakfast served at the table overlooking the Wasini channel. In most cases by then the cook came to ask me what i prefered for dinner (fresh prawns, carpaccio of barracuda, fresh crabs, african specialities, .....). During our stay Rita and Sammy came up with a lot of ideas to enjoy our stay (mangrove trip, diving, sightseeing, sunsettrip, socialising,.... Hiding for stress and the rest of the world: Shimoni is the place to be!

Room Tip: In case you are with a large group the bungalow is a good idea. In case you want to have it romanti...
