“Best villa ever”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 3, 2009

We had a fantastic 5 days at Southpoint Abbey (sister proporty to the villa) in August 2009. Beautiful location on the beach and a fantasically equipped villa. 3 bedrooms with large 4 posters and en-suite bathroom in each, and all air conditioned. Very attentive staff including excellent chef who can do sri lankan or international cooking to your requirements. Tea and cake avery day at 4pm was a fantastic treat, which we still miss. We had a barbeque on the last night, which was superb....staff put candles all the way round the garden and set the dining table up outside under the stars for us. The owner also arranged for our children to be able to release a couple of baby turtles into the sea - a great memory. Good pool and very well kept gardens. 30 mins from Galle.

The decision against staying at a large 5 star resort was made as we were a family with 2 elderly grandparents and very young kids. South point abbey was a fantastic experience due to its private beach, pool and excellent staff. It was ideal for us looking to get away from the chaos that is Colombo, yet not wanting to share the facilities with 100 more as exprienced in the many luxury resorts we passed by on our way here (especially due to the anticipated crowds during the poya holidays)

With a price tag to match any 5 star luxury resort (believe me, i did my research), I would recommend the place (there is however, the occasional sound of the bus speeding by on the main road which was thankfully drowned by the sounds of the beach to some degree) and would love to experience the exclusive service provided by the wonderful staff.

Special mention goes out to the excellent food!

WOW! It is the most amazing holiday I have ever had. I visited this wonderful place with my mom and my sister. There, we had a marvelous time. It was just a 4 day stay. Oh it wasn't ofcourse 'just' a stay but definitely an unforgettable one.

Unlike a hotel, this particular place makes you feel more like your own home only with much more comforts. It is very spacious and has everything that is needed to spend a happy stress-free holiday. The food was delicious! It was one of the many things that I really enjoyed a lot. The service was also awesome! They treated us like the queens of the country. It was incredibly good.

We were mesmerized by the endless sandy beach where we could laze in the warm sunshine and acquire a golden tan.

We swam to our heart's content in the warm aquamarine shark-free waters of the calm sea and viewed the picturesque coral formations abounding with multicoloured fish.

Hence I strongly recommend it as a place that you must spend your holiday and experience those wonderful moments which would certainly be etched in your memory...

Arriving at the Colombo International Airport with trepidation, my friends I (a group of 5)were warmly welcomed by the representative of South Point Villa who whisked us off in an air-conditioned, comfortable vehicle to the Southern coast to this beautiful villa on the beach.

Our first impression made us gasp. Flowers, aromatic candles accompanied by warm and friendly smiles made us feel so welcome - so much so that the feeling of tiredness after a long flight and a couple of hours drive simply went away.

With a welcome drink of fresh avocado and a quick look around we settled in our rooms. As per the facilities advertised every detail and every meal was taken care of - each meal being an absolute gourmet's delight while our comfort was never compromised.

The staff were exceptional - gentle and with Eastern charm. I must mention that when we went out to the city of Galle to see the old Dutch Fort we had to leave my friend's three year old daughter with the housekeeper who took excellent care of her during our absence.

We were amazed at the constant upkeep of the villa and the staff paying attention to detail. Meal times were a pleasure for not only the delicious fare provided but also the presentation. We loved the aloe vera and cinnamon shampoo provided by the villa.

The beach was almost exclusively ours except for the occasional fisherman who sauntered by with his fishing gear. We enjoyed our swims time and again. When we felt like it, the pool on the villa was a pleasant diversion - especially at night, under the stars.

The owners of the villa have a community service project for the villagers. It was heartwarming to see children and adults being cared for. We wish that we could have extended our stay.

Thank you one and all at the villa for a memorable holiday. We are certainly coming back to South Point Villa, Sri Lanka.

This was our second stay at South Point having stayed at the Abbey with friends last year.

For us this is about as perfect as it gets. The villa is set in beautiful gardens which are right on the beach which curves round the villa so you almost feel that you are surrounded by the sea.

There are few places in the world where you can walk along a safe golden deserted beach, South Point is one. There is no one there except a few fishermen and a couple of cows.

The pool is large enough and slopes gently without being too deep.

The villa is lovely, the master bedroom is large, with double doors opening on to the terrace and you can lie in bed and watch the sea crashing on the beach. The bathroom is well appointed with large walk in shower, his and hers vanity sinks with large mirrors.

However what makes this the perfect holiday are the staff. Nothing is too much trouble, from drinks in the pool, a snack, a cocktail.

Then there is the food. Samanta who was our chef is both charming with good English and a great chef. The attention to the presentation of the food would grace a top class restaurant. We ate mostly sea food, the biggest prawns I have ever seen, lobster and crab. Every meal was a delight.

I can’t think of any negative points, which is almost a shame as I am torn between raving about this place and keeping it a secret.

If you want to escape from it all, in a beautiful location with great food and service then this is the perfect place.

Already looking forward to going back

Two months have passed since our return from Sri Lanka. Since then we travelled more, we stayed in other wonderful locations. And yet our memories of the magical stay in South Point Abbey remain unchanged: it is one of the best if not the best private fully catered villa we have ever holidayed in. It is difficult to add much more to the superlatives used by other visitors reviewing the villa other than to say: we fully agree! Perhaps the points we would particularly want to underline are: very rarely such total comfort, superb food and most attentive team of staff are provided in such discretely traditional and non ostentatious way. Rarely are the owners so helpful at so many levels, ensuring that the guests feel at home from the moment of arrival in Sri Lanka to the moment of departure, helping to make the best arrangements be it transfers or even hotel bookings in Colombo (our party arrived from different continents at different times - everyone was wonderfully looked after from the moment their planes touched down). And finally it is a good feeling to know that the income generated by the villa is channeled in the most practical ways by the owners - who know local needs so well - into community slowly reconstructing their lives after tsunami devastation. We are certainly looking forward to our next visit in the South Point Villa.....
