My partner and I visited the Grand Udawalawe for lunch one afternoon. It is located directly on the main road to the Udawalawe park, but once you pull in, you don't realise you are so close to the busy area outside. This resort is brand new and very big and impressive. The rooms looked very nice and simple ( eco friendly feel) The pool is nice and big and there is a pool bar, which is chic. As we were the only ones there at the time, we were a bit bombarded by the lovely staff who wanted to accommodate us, but I suspect as they get busier with more guests, they will be less intense. The restaurant was very spacious and open. It was very impressive. We did not look at a menu, the chef came to our table and asked us what we wanted. We had a lovely lunch, but were bitten quite bad by mosquitoes, so bring some spray! Overall we would definitely stay here , especially if going to visit the Udawalawe park. There are no views from any of the rooms and the park is about a 15 minute drive across the dam. No spa yet, but being built and should be nice! From all the other places you can stay near Udawalawe , this would probably be the best choice, but not very well known yet.
