“Prepare for a (hot) feast”

Master Campers provides a really good product: wonderfull camp, nice tents, great food, friendly and knowledgable staff etc. The safaries we had were great. We will be talking about this experience for many years.

The only hick-up was the van driver who picked us up and later took us to our next destination. Both times he was late, didn't really know the way, once we drove in the wrong direction for 30 min, once we had to stop for 30 min because he drove into a bus, and he didn't have the experience or good sense to understand that for a 4 hour drive you should plan a bathroom break. He's a nice guy, but needs some training/help.

We stayed in the camp for 3 nights and had five safaries and a visit to the Elephant Transit Home. We were there as a family with two young children (2 and 5 years old). They had a great time, but I feel I must give a warning to other families. Be aware that daytime in the the camp can get long (from 9 AM to 3 PM) and very hot. For adults this is great. You can read, sleep or relax. For children however this can be very long and very hard. There is little to do and the heat can bring out the worst in any child. Our children had trouble napping/sleeping in the heat, even at night. The afternoon safaries are also very hot, and go on for three hours. Really young children can get fed up - even with elephants.

I really don't want to descourage anyone, but depending on your child consider carefully how long you want to stay.

Room Tip: Delux tents is preferable. NB there will be no AC no matter what you chose..

We stayed for a couple of nights at Master Campers with two children (11 and 12) and had a fabulous time, with superb safaris, delicious food, a great luxury tent and fantastic service. The camp was in a fantastic position among banana trees and coconut palms, at the edge of a lake, with a night sky full of sparkling stars. The meals were among the best we ate in Sri Lanka - a real achievement given they were prepared in a camp kitchen. The safaris were really exciting, and a highlight of the children's holiday - always different and with a knowledgeable and attentive guide and driver who really cared about the wildlife and our experience of it. Uditha's efficient personal and friendly approach translated all the way through the camp experience - nothing was too much trouble and everyone was focussed on making our stay a memorable one. We certainly won't forget the fun firework display on New Year's Eve.

We stayed three nights at Master Campers. The tents were roomy fixed tents with carpets, beds, and an attached small bathroom. The camp site was in a wonderful position over looking a lake. The food was the best we had in Sri Lanka. The safaris in the national park were in small groups and led by knowledgeable guides, and Uditha was a wealth of local information. This was a more 'close to nature' camping experience than we have previously experienced in fixed-camp-sites used in safari in Southern Africa, but was none the worse for it.

We wanted a 2 night excursion away from our hotel on the beach at Koggala and after some online research a safari with Master Campers seemed to fit the bill. We were not disappointed - Uditha and his team provide a great package and nothing is too much trouble. Transfers were on time and in a comfortable AC-equipped vehicle, tents and facilities first class and the food excellent and in copious quantities! We have no reservations in enthusiastically recommending Master Campers.

Room Tip: Go for the 'luxury' rather than 'premium' tents - cost is only a little more but the...

Stayed with children and grandchildren at Master Campers for three nights. From the beginning to the very end we enjoyed ourselves and had some wonderful safaris with lots of interesting animals and some spectacular views. We were accompanied by some very professional and knowledgeable guides and drivers who went out of their way to meet our needs. The food - especially breakfast and lunch which was Sri Lankan style - was plentiful and delicious. We slept in the luxury tents which was worth the extra expense, and we can truly recommend this experience even to families with small children.

When we booked our stay with Master Campers we couldn't find many reviews but as you can see now it was totally worth it! Everything from the service, guides, facilities and meals are excellent and that's without the amazing elephants you will see.

We arrived earlier than expected but it was no problem and shortly after we were sitting on the river bank enjoying an awesome Sri Lankan meal. Make sure you ask for the peanut and eggplant curry, it was the best we had in SL.

We were only able to stay for one night but Uditha and the team ensured it was the best stay we had on holiday. We had two safaris, one late afternoon into the evening and one first thing in the morning. Each group of guests have their own jeep with ranger and guide. We saw heaps of animals and lots of what we'd come for; elephants. On return from the night safari the entire campsite was lit with lanterns and flame touches.

The accommodation is basic but it is camping and they set up flushing toilets, shower tents and comfortable beds. The food is awesome; our evening meal was a bbq and a Sri Lankan breakfast. You won't go hungry!
