We stayed at Elephant Lane for one night, had a delicious meal, comfortable sleep, then woke up to go on an Elephant Safari in the National Park which was organised by the manager of the guest house.

The manager of Elephant Lane had an excellent breakfast spread ready for us on our return from the Safari, and was very accommodating with our dietary and special requests.

The rooms were spacious, some were a/c and some with ceiling fans which was all we needed in the cooler climate. Generally the rooms were clean, but could have done with a sweep and mosquito nets.

Most importantly, the manager of Elephant Lane was very willing to help us when we found an injured dog on the side of the road. He helped us contact a vet and offered to take good care of the dog for the next month or more whilst it's broken leg healed. We're very grateful to him for helping us out and for his kindness. I'd highly recommend Elephant Lane if you're in the area.

For a little town and the price the experience is about what I expected. The manager Jeremiah was very nice and organized our tour into the national park, he has eggs and toast waiting for us when we woke up at dawn. The rooms however need some work; loud bed, buggy, humid and the single pane glass door did not give us the illusion of security. I am however amazed that our driver found the place after dark. Recommendation: stay at Kula's Hideaway if they have space or at least go there for dinner.

High ceiling rooms with an outdoor shower and air conditioning cost is 4,000 rupees. The owner kindly arranged for a safari to Uda Walawe for four hours in the afternoon which cost 3,000 rupees. When we arrived we had the most delicious egg sandwiches with the freshest, softest bread I have ever eaten ! Dinner was Sri Lankan curry which was very good and we enjoyed our first Sri Lankan breakfast which was great. Make sure you have a tea here too - the best in Sri Lanka! I would say that the place could do with mosquito nets - definitely take your own as we got eaten alive and in the room we stayed, the bed was so noisy that it woke you up when you rolled over in the night ! But other than that, a pleasant stay with a helpful host and good food.

My family (2 adults, 2 kids) stayed for 1 night at Elephant Lane and were not impressed. The room was drab and depressing and felt a bit like a shed. The bathroom was open roofed and we could hear anyone who talked in the restaurant kitchen- so I suppose they could hear everything we said as well. The manager tried very hard to be helpful but, as we were the only people staying in the hotel, he hovered over our table at meal times which was a bit uncomfortable. We were not offered a menu, just asked what we would like to eat. The food was delicious, but there was always far too much, which led to a lot of waste, questions from our host as to why we weren't eating all the food ("Do you want some curd?" "No thank you." "Why not?" "Um, because I am really full..."), and then a surprisingly huge restaurant bill on check-out. On the plus side, Elephant Lane is in a good location to visit Uda Walawe National Park.
