It isn't every day you find yourself sharing first world luxury with crocodiles, wild boars and elephants, but that is exactly what you get at Cinnamon Wild. A glorious pool overlooks a lagoon with an island on which a crocodile suns itself; a wild boar family wanders through the poolside bar area totally unfazed by staff or guests; droppings on the path outside the chalets indicate that an elephant has paid a night-time visit. And on the safari trips which run twice a day- you do have to be prepared for a bumpy ride - we were amazed by the number and variety of birds and animals we saw including, after much searching, a glimpse of one of Yala's elusive leopards. But we felt well looked after. After dark we were escorted to our chalet, which was clean, comfortable and tastefuly decorated. Food was plentiful and delicious, and the staff were unfailingly helpful. Certainly one of the highlights of our holiday in Sri Lanka.

Beautiful room, sad for the rain and some staff issues. My girlfriend and I spent just one night and had an excellent welcome, and loved the Jungle room. Problem was a few staff quirks that the management needs to correct. They are lovely folks but do not know when to leave your table as they chat and chat for ever. Two young men asked us for cigarettes one for the rest of my package. Our safari guide had a very heavy Sri Lankan accent and we had a really hard time understanding him...so be sure when they meet with you before the safari you have the best person for you. We also had several drinks at the lovely bar area and our waiter commented twice we were having "many" drinks! Was not a good way to make us feel we could order more...but we did.

Room Tip: I can't imagine there would be a bad one, we had wild boar walking past about 10pm that night.

We spent 2 nights at the Cinnamon Wild Yaala (formerly Chaaya Wild) and thoroughly enjoyed every wildlife filled moment. The chalets are very well appointed, spacious and clean. The pool area and restaurants/bar are all equally well decorated in a casual, jungle kind of way. The food was good with lots of options. But its all the wildlife and the location that really makes a stay here special. Lots of monkeys, wild boar, squirrels and even a small snake, were all encountered right next to the main pool area. We had a great experience with elephants on an afternoon safari but unfortunately only caught a glimpse of a leopard sleeping in some bushes. Well worth a trip off the beaten track.

We thank you for your feedback on our Hotel and we are delighted to note the overall experience during your stay. The abundance of animal and bird life within the premises makes it a special location to be at, as the hotel itself is situated in the buffer zone which is 10 minutes away from the national park. We look forward to your next visit to Cinnamon Wild.

Stayed for one night and arrived early as we were driving 7 hours from Colombo through the night but the hotel sat us down got us a drink and hot towel and we waited for 15 minutes before they let us check in 4 hours early which was really good of them and set the tone for the whole stay.

We have a chalet in grounds not on the beach side and when we were been shown to our room saw a crocodile 50 metres from where we were staying which was sweet. Room was a 5 star Chalet with a large bed with drapes up to date technology with a nice shower and porch which I could not fault. We paid for the safari through the hotel and paid $72USD which was about $10 more than going direct but you got a driver and a very good guide which made the trip we got to see crocs, leopards, elephants and quite a few water buffalo and deer. Awesome experience.

The food was an international buffet for breakfast and dinner with cooking stations which I thought was really good and offer a very wide selection.

Overall it was an awesome experience and well worth the extra cost would definitely return

Lovely chalets set on the outskirts of the national park, room was spacious very clean and comfortable with satellite tv, perfect bathrooms and a nice chill out terrace . From our room we saw wild boars and lots of monkeys. The breakfast included in the price was a very good buffet with everything from porridge to eggs and bacon available. Dinner and lunch are available for 35Usd pp and also buffet style. I can't comment on the lunch as we only had the dinner (20usd pp) and I must say it was pretty special- western food was like at home and the dessert selection was scrumptious!
The hotel offers various safari options including a night safari in which you wear night vision goggles, free wifi throughout, and various restaurants and bars.
The pool was very clean, and staff polite.
The only downfall was they tried to sell us wine over dinner and they were very pushy in doing so. A free pick up and drop off to Tissa would be nice as the staff bus goes there anyway.
Would I go back? If I am lucky enough.

We stayed here as part of a Kuoni excursion to Yala, and i'm soooo glad we chose to do this trip.
This hotel is an absolute gem, positioned practically in the middle of the National Park, it most surely is worth the travel time, i promise!!! Our arrival, which after nearly 6 hours in an non-airconditioned mini van, post Elephant safari, in 40degree dusty heat, was such an amazing surprise, it really pulled our travel experience etc onto another level. We were greated by the reception team, who took and bags, got us to sit in the open air reception/Foyer area, whilst they checked us in, we were given a tasty cool drink, 3 flavours to choose from (Different to your usual, sticky sweet drinks you get given on arrival in other hotels), and a towel (which was most refreshing after our journey), we were shown to our challets which were of a good size, and told that if we were to leave the challet after dusk, we must call reception for a chaperone (This confussed us, as were didnt quite realise at this point, just how close to nature we really were)
After checking out our room (as you do) we headed straight to the pool, the pool guy got us our beds, towels etc, and didnt hang around for a trip, which was a breath of fresh air. The pool overlooks a watering hole, which is regularly visited by Yala's inhabitants. The pool however is also visited by the locals too, these being macaque's and chipmunks! The Macaque monkeys of mischievious and i would say for sure think nothing of walking away with any unattended small items :-) sharing the pool area with these little beauts is a real experience, although sharing the roof top area, whilst having a cocktail before dinner is also a camera moment. prior to dinner we retired to our challet for a shower, during this time, we were visited by a family of wild boar, on their way home, and a couple of monkeys who were making the most of the cool period before dust. The drink here are really all that expensive, and the buffet in the restaurant have something for everybody. Our safari the next day, gave us an experience of a lifetime, a wild elephant close enourgh to our jeep to touch, and a two leopards, one high up on some rocks above the national Park and another, trying to stay cool in the shade. We were shown a sobering sight of, an area where a hotel once stood prior to the Tsunami, the beach there and the view is beautiful, and you can see why a hotel was once build there, such an exceptional position. Overall the visit to Yala was on level we've not experienced, my husband an i are big believers, in traveling and experiencing places once, to ensure to chance to visit somewhere else new, however in this case, this is the only exception to our rule, after our visit in October 2012, we're currently planning our return for April 2014, but for a longer stay than 1 night. Worth all the bumps in road, and seriously long journey to Yala. Take lots of pictures, and take in every single moment you spend here,a magical place to visit and one that when you re tell your stories to friends and family, they wont believe that this place even exists.
