This little gem in the heart of Chiavenna was like something from a fairy tale. The room was gorgeous and very large, with a kitchenette and full size bathroom/shower. There was even a washing machine in the bathroom. The owner, Gabriela, made sure I was stocked with fruit, meat, cheese, butter and jams, bottled water and daily breads and juice. There was so much to eat I really didn't ever need to buy food until dinner time! She and her daughter, Rebecca, were so gracious and helpful and always on hand to answer any question I had about seeing the sites or how to get around. I could not have been more pampered and spoiled!

We stayed in the Stua room--the big one with all old wood walls, ceiling, and floors. It is on the ground floor and is part of the original 300 year old house. The rest of the house was built recently, and all designed by Gabriela to have extraordinary charm and beauty. She has a great design sense, and used lots of stone and old wood beams. Our room's interior was beautifully decorated. The king size bed is very comfortable and the down pillows were the best on our trip! Plenty of table space, too. I should mention that the bathroom and shower are small (but pretty, with handmade stone and woodwork). We didn't mind, but I see in some Tripadvisor reviews that this may matter to some, in which case do stay here, but ask for one of the upstairs rooms. La Selvatica has an address on the main street of the old town, but is actually around on a side street. You may hear some noise from the kitchen of a restaurant across the street, but not to worry--it is over by 11pm and then very quiet all night.

The best part was Gabriela and her lovely daughter Rebecca--two of the best hosts you will ever meet. We left feeling that we had made new friends. And Chiavenna is a great town; very authentic and pretty with only a handful of tourists.

This a most distinictive and different B&B. On a small side street in central Chiavenna, it is near the river and everything else. Gabriella is an amazing woman and it is reflected in how things are run --in how things look.

We have just stayed 5 nights at B&B Selvatico in the "wood room". It is a very spacious and comfortable room and Gabriella is a most accommodating host.
Chiavenna is a lovely little town with plenty of restaurants and close to both lake Como and St Moritz for day trips.
Bar Tavernella has the best value Spritzers we have found in all of Europe so make sure you stop there for a drink or two. The restaurant next door is also very good for pizza and pasta.
