My wife and I drove up the Rhone River visiting various winemakers and visited small and large producers. We would classify Chapoutier as a large producer and did not know what toi expect when we made a reservation for a tasting ( you do not need a reservation but it is better to make one). We were warmly greeted when we arrived and our hostess took us on a little walk over to famous Hermitage Hill, where she explained the geology and history of the various parcels. We then returned to the tasting room for a very nice tasting during which are tasting included St. Peray and Cornas, as well as other selections. We had a great time and felt like we were at a much smaller producer because of the personal attention we received. I highly recommend that you visit Chapoutier and recommend that you reserve rather than just walk in.
