We had the great fortune of visiting Akasha Mountain Retreat on our recent trip to South Africa. From the moment we arrived, we were made to feel welcome and at home! Chris is a fantastic host and we were fortunate to get to spend some time exploring the property with him (and his wonderful dogs!). He even played guitar for us in the evening (and he is quite good!). This place is stunningly beautiful and the perfect place to unplug, read a book, enjoy nature and play Scrabble! The beds are comfortable and everything is thoughtfully provided for your stay. Our only complaint is that one night was NOT enough and we will definitely return for another stay in this beautiful retreat!
For our 4-week trip to the Western & Eastern Cape my family and I (wife and 18 month old daugther) were looking for something special as we also would be celebrating my birthday during our stay and while surfing the web my eye was caught by this place. I couldn't find much reviews but the reviews and blogs describing the place were all unanimously positive. Although it was the most expensive accomodation of our entire 4 weeks it was also the absolute highlight of our trip, by far! Why, do you ask? Well where do I start...
1. The Moroccan styled house itself is very spacious as I believe up to 12 people can stay there altogether and the house was also in optimal condition and very clean upon arrival. Attention to detail is also truly incredible.
2. Chris the owner has thought about everything to make your stay as comfortable as can be and will do everything in his power to make sure you have an optimal experience
3. Complimentary walks around the farm with Chris as your guide.
4. Limited cellphone reception and no tv so true quality time with your family/friends.
5. It's only you and your family/friends on the farm so very exclusive.
6. The vibe of the place is just super relaxed.
7. Prolific birdlife around the house and the farm so if you're into sunbirds, sugerbirds etc. you will love it.
8. The views are out of this world.
9. The views ARE out of this world.
So if you're looking for a unique location in the Western Cape, look no further than Akasha Mountain Retreat. It's truly heaven on earth and we hope to return some day to relive this exceptional experience. Michel, Leonie & Nova
Loved the Moroccan style house, attention to detail, views, mechanical water pump, roaming horses, dam. Chris showed us the best parts of the farm. Fantastic massage.
The sad thing about finding Paradise was that we had to leave it. We were a group of nine and it was a Family Reunion and a more perfect place could not have been found. Everything that we needed was there and the odd replenishment that we needed was carried out by our Host Chris, as a host Chris is amazing, nothing too much of a problem and his knowledge of the area in terms of the flora, fauna and history only added to the enjoyment of our stay. Added to which one evening he came down and played his guitar and sang for an hour which we all really enjoyed. I only have positive things to say, everything was fine and as a group we had an amazing time and contributing that was the fact that there is no TV and limited cell phone reception so as a family we interacted. Went on hike to Mermaids Pool and it was an adventure and Chris took us on a short hike to share his knowledge of the area. I simply cannot enthuse enough about Akasha, I have added a couple of photos taken by my son but to you have to visit to get the vibe of this most amazing place. Am sure we will be back one day and we have shared our experiences with many others on FB so am sure more of our friends will follow. A delightful add on was a Massuer and those that experienced her skills all said it was the most amazing massage they had ever had.
Keep the good vibe going Chris, it was a most awesome visit for us.
If you are looking for a stunning view and for a quiet place; don't hesiate to go here. Okay, there is no Wifi, it is self-catering and you have to go about 10km on a dirt-road (especially not easy with rain and a luxury car), but you will be amazed. Chris will give you a short tour and he will play an hour on his guitar with sunset. But its just great'. The house is very clean, even as the dishes. Rooms are very comfortable and a great shower. We stayed with four people in the main house, but I think a stay untill 8 people (including extra cottage) is possible. Lots of birds around the house. Chris showed us beautifull pictures of the wildlife around this area. So; just go!
To say we loved it is an understatement, it's perfect, views to die for, fresh air, quiet, comfortable and we will be back. Great work team!
Before arriving in Akasha, i thought that it would be a beautiful and nice place to spend some time during our SA journey. But it was way more than that! The Akasha Mountain Retreat ist the most beautiful and peaceful place that I have ever been to! It is almost magical with all its nature, animals and quiteness...
The house was build in an maroccan style and had a lot of beautiful details. It was very clean!
Chris is a very nice host who cares about his guests and their needs during the whole stay! He made breakfast together with his staff every morning.
He shared his knowledge about plants and animals with us and took us on a tour to get to know the nature.
I would recommend the Akasha Mountain Retreat. It is the perfect place to get away from your everyday life, to relax and to enjoy the quiteness of nature.
Thank you very much Chris!
