Even on a light rain day this was location to visit. Plenty of parking and the usual well stocked gift shop, complete with local produce. The building is being worked on and the inside is much of a muchness with other similar large houses but it is the whole location almost part of the mountain behind and reflected perfectly in the glass surface of the lake, that takes the eye The Gothic Church a fitting resting place for the original owner a sad, tragic end to a fantastic dream but the Abbey remains s lasting monument to his dream. Nice Cafe.

Kylemore Abbey is incredible. For the low ticket price, you get into the Abbey, a smaller neo- Gothic Church, the gardens, a gift shop and cafe, and some lovely walks around the property. The story of Kylemore is a tragic love story, and the peaceful landscape and beautiful property show you how much the owners cared about it both in years past and today. Of course you don't get access to the whole castle as it is still used today by the Benedictine nuns of Kylemore. But I felt the ticket price and what we got to see made this visit worth every penny, and the drive through Connemara to get there was lovely as well. Of the other garden stops we made and things we visited on our massive Irish roadtrip, including all the cliffs and the Powerscourt Gardens, this is the place my mom still talks about.

First visit we visited the gardens and house which was nice even on a rainy day. We visited again just for a coffee when the weather improved as the restaurant is available even if you are not going into the Abbey which is handy if you are visiting the area.

We stopped here on our tour of Connemara. This was very nice place but some it was under construction. We didn't linger in the main Abbey but enjoyed the miniature Gothic Church and the Wall Victorian Gardens. This is a great stop but I would not drive out of my way to see it. Super in expensive. Great value.
