“Kylemore Abbey”
Reviewed October 12, 2013

We were on the last leg of our Ireland trip and asked the Bed and Breakfast owner for a suggestion on what to do near Galway. She suggested driving through the Connemarra Forest where we stumbled upon Kylemore Abbey. The Abbey was amazing. The day we were there the water was so calm that we could see the reflection of the Abbey perfectly. It was absolutely stunning! For something that wasn't on our pre-trip list of things to do, this turned out to be one of our favorite memories.

“Picturesque”

The building is placed very dramatically across a pond so it's a great photo op. You can only tour part of the first floor but you get a real sense of the history and grandeur of the abbey. The gardens were a special treat but unfortunately we didn't get to see the church.

“Breathtaking”
Reviewed October 10, 2013

I saw the Gardens at the end of the season, so not to much to see. Still worth a look just to hear the history of the grounds on the bus to the gardens. The Abbey was nice, wish there was more you could see in the Abbey. The view from the front steps are like none other. The history of the property is amazing. There is also a mini-cathedral and mausoleum on the grounds.

“Must See Site”
Reviewed October 9, 2013

Situated on a beautiful lake and at the base of a mountain range, the Kylemore Abbey stands as a testament to an important more modern time period in Irish history. The gardens, Abbey, and church are all beautifully designed and well maintained, though I thought the outdoor sites were the best part of the compound. A short shuttle ride takes you from the house to the garden through a windy wooded path. The garden is something out of a fairy tale, and not lacking in great locations for pictures. The setting took my breathe away, and I highly recommend you experience this Abbey and the garden.

The view of Kylemore Abbey were spectacular. The shop, cafe and other facilities on the site were very helpful and had some good sales. We did not buy tickets to see the inside, since there were many pictures to view in the gift shop.
