When we were driving towards Kylemore Abbey you first get to see it from the road overlooking the lake in front of the Abbey. I will always remember the breathtaking reaction when we turned the corner and saw the Abbey for the first time with the reflection of the Abbey in the still lake. Maybe other than the Cliffs of Moher, the Abbey was our favorite spot in all of Ireland, and a definite must see in Ireland.

We went to the Kylemore Abbey on a rainy day so we could not walk in the gardens. We decided to skip the entrance fee and just enjoy the views from the parking lot. We did spend more than an hour in the wonderful gift shop and bought many of our souvenirs for family there. They also had a restaurant, which we did not try but it looked pretty good.

We were lucky enough to be at the beautiful Abbey and gardens on a gorgeous sunny day. The Abbey and gardens are both beautifully restored and while it is true you cannot see every room, you do get a good feel for what the house must of been like to live in and the views of the Connemara countryside are everywhere. I think the walk to the gardens and mausoleum through the trees just added to the magic of the property...mind you it was a warm, sunny day. The head gardners house in the walled gardens, is a treasure in and of itself.

The gift shop, is indeed, worth a visit and after several hours of walking, the tea shop was a welcomed stop.

We managed to arrive before/after all the tourist buses had departed, for the most part. I would imagine that if you timing is unlucky, expect a lot of people. This said, the property is very big and can accommodate a crowd.

Not much to see inside the actual Abbey which was disappointing, considering how amazing it looks. The Victorian Gardens are incredible. That alone is worth the price of admission.

A day trip would be ideal to get your money's worth to tour the castle, scope out the beautiful grounds, the garden. You can book a hike up the mountain which was without a doubt the most beautiful hike I have ever taken. I recommend walking to the garden from the castle (if you're up for a 15 minute walk) because there are a lot of neat things to see. They have a great place to grab a snack by the gardens that has delicious pastries and a really nice giftshop and cafe. Overall had an absolutely wonderful experience
