Nice scenery, not too much to visit in the house because most of it is closed. The fee is a little bit high. The gardens worth to visit.

The scenery in which the Abbey is found is really wonderful. The admission fee for the Abbey itself and its garden is, however, a bit high in my opinion. The parts of the Abbey we could visit were interesting to watch, but only a rather small part of the Abbey is accessible. Additionally, I have to say that we have been there in January and the gardens are probably much nicer to walk through in summer. The nearby café, however, is really worth a visit. Many self-made products are sold there and the price-quality ratio is very good.

This is a great place to visit while you are at Western Ireland. Right at the at the heart of the Great Bens.

We had a couple of hours to kill one afternoon whilst staying in nearby Clifden. Based on the reviews, this seemed like a good option and we were not dissapointed.

Unfortunately, bright sunny skies in Clifden gave way to leaden grey clouds and a light rain by the time we arrived at Kylemore. If anything, this just added to the serene splendour of the abbey amidst the bleak landscape of the surrounding uplands of Connemara.

The abbey itself is notable (at least to me) for its wonderful photo opportunity. On a still day, it reflects spectacularly onto the lake that lies in front of it. On a cloudy day it was great - would love to see it with blue skies above. Inside the abbey is a little limited with most of the building not accessible due to the fact that it is still occupied. That's the only reason I dropped a star from this being a true 5 star attraction. The information in the areas that you can access are interesting albeit the story it tells is a little sad - no spoiler here!

A short walk to the nearby chapel is a nice diversion but we mainly enjoyed the approx 1.5 mile round trip walk to the walled garden which in itself is worth a visit. You can get a shuttle to and from the walled garden or do it one way and walk back. Either way, don't miss the walk along the lakeshore either to or from the walled garden. Even in the low cloud and drizzle of the day we were their, the surrounding scenery is impressive in its rugged bleakness.

Even with the walk, 2 to 3 hours is about right for this trip.

An enjoyable afternoon spent at Kylemore.

This has to be one of the most beautiful places that you could visit. The setting amongst the mountains is truly breathtaking and is undoubtedly worth a visit. The interior of the house is mundane- do not bother going in, as all the splendour is outside in front of your very eyes. This is one of the jewels in the crown of this exceptionally beautiful part of the world.
