We booked two night with John en Edell to celebrate a special day. The room was excellent, a brilliant shower, good bed, every detail done with lots of love. Then breakfast. John is an excellent cook and made me my favorite; eggs benedict. The most prefect ones I have ever eaten. This couple is incredibly friendly and helpful, we will certainly come back next year for this same special day ( and the eggs...)!

We made a flying visit for 1 night to view a property, and as we knew Monpazier, decided to stay the night here. We looked on TripAdvisor and Chez Edell sounded perfect, but ended up being far more than that.

We arrived from Bergerac at 6.30pm, and had a table booked at Bistro 2, a couple of mins walk away. We were very warmly greeted by John & Edell, lovely couple who obviously love people and go out of their way to ensure everyone is happy.

We had a super room with a four poster iron bed, large shower room with body jets. The bed linen is crisp, good quality, and smells beautiful. The room was very quirky, as the house is 650 years old, the floor sloped towards the window, and the timber frame is visible in the bedroom, just lovely, and the winter overlooks a beautiful walled terrace. It was very peaceful, and we both slept very well, in fact my alarm woke me which makes a change for me!

Breakfast was amazing...juices, the best buttery croissants, fresh bread, fresh fruit salad, yoghurts, preserves, and then the icing on the cake...one of Johns lovely light fluffy cheese omelettes, absolutely scrummy! Coffee was also excellent, and made to your individual taste.

To be fair, I still can't imagine how they can offer so much for only 50 Euros per night for 2 people. All I can say is don't be put off by the price, it really is as good as all of the reviews on here say it is, so go and enjoy the experience, you'll love it, and be very well looked after.

Thank you so much John & Edell for looking after us so well, we'll certainly be back just as soon as we can.

We knew little about Monpazier other than it seemed midway between Beaulieu sur Dordogne and Bordeaux. So we booked online for two nights in May, not really knowing what to expect when we arrived. Nearing the end of a two month holiday in Italy and France we were starting to anticipate our return home so it was a blessing to find such a lovely, relaxing environment with two such friendly hosts as John and Edell.
It was fascinating to hear John recount how, while living in Christchurch, NZ, they purchased (via the internet, sight unseen) this 650 year old building and then refurbished it to become their lovely B & B.
They have created an elegant, comfortable, relaxed environment just a few metres from the village square, in one of France's exclusive "Les Plus Beaux Villages". It was just what we needed. A scrupulously clean, spacious, quiet room overlooking their courtyard and adjacent to the guest lounge with about 70 TV channels to view.
Having experienced numerous "breakfasts" in France on our trip I can honestly say Edell's buffet was by far the best in both quality and quantity.
The village is as described, just beautiful and compact with lots of restaurants (Edell recommended two great ones), and situated in the heart of the Dordogne - easy driving to other tourist attractions, Chateaux, etc.
We had a lovely time and I would defy anyone to not enjoy their stay with John, Edell and Hector. Top value in a top location!

Room Tip: I think they are all very good rooms.

We have just returned from a wonderful stay at Chez Edell in Monpazier. John and Edell make their guests feel like welcome friends rather than paying guests. They are a very hospitable couple who obviously enjoy meeting new people.
Our room, overlooking the courtyard was immaculate, beautifully furnished and had lots of old house charm. The creaky floorboards and sloping floor all just added to the atmosphere. The bed was very comfortable, the linens good quality. Breakfast was excellent, John makes a good omelette and his Eggs Benedict was delicious. Edell makes lovely coffee and generally makes sure guests have a good start to their day. Monpazier is a little gem of a village and Chez Edell the icing on the cake.

Room Tip: All of the rooms looked lovely, we had the room overlooking the courtyard and it was very nice indee...

We couldn't ask for anything more... John and Edell gave us 4 nights of " a home away from home". Beautiful B&B, great company, they will help you with anyhting in anyway they can.
Chez Edell has a beautiful setting, charming clean and great rooms with all the comfort needed. Breakfast is important to me, so great to see a huge variety with bread, croissants, fresh fruit saled, cereal and muesli.
I know we will come back!

Room Tip: All rooms are equally charming. Room 3 looks out on a small charming courtyard, rooms 1 and 2 on the...

On our tour de France we didn't have much time to spend in the Dordogne (2 nights) and so we relied on the feedback for Chez Edell on tripadvisor to a large extent.

This is one of the great B&Bs - 650 year old house, great breakfasts, stories and advice from John and Edell and fantastic value - a highlight of our month in France.

Simply put, we planned to stay for 2 nights and stayed for 6, ending our trip with John and Edell. Does that tell you anything? We simply did not want to leave. We all had great conversation, wonderful food, and even went to some markets together. The room was first rate, but the secret to this place is the owners. My wife and I are already planning next year's trip to include Monpazier just to see them ( well, and also the beautiful town itself). We were traveling by bicycle and John took great care of our bikes, also. Just stay here!

Room Tip: There are no bad choices, but we had the back room overlooking the courtyard area.
