“A super place to stay!”
Reviewed December 31, 2013

We stayed one night in Maison des Palmiers with four children aged 8 -15, they adored the pool even though it was almost full with the four of them in it! It really is a great addition to have a pool in the heat of the summer. It is the great welcome from Hilary and Denis that sets the place apart, the vibe is just so easy-going and friendly that we really felt so welcome staying in their home. The house itself is beautiful, the beds are very comfortable and the breakfast was delicious. What more can I say?!

My wife and I recently spent five days with Hilary and Denis Dundas in their charming B&B, Maison des Palmiers, in the Languedoc region of France and we loved every minute. From the moment you step through the front door, Hilary and Denis make you feel welcome and at home. Our room was lovely, well appointed, and looked out onto the hills around Bize Minervois. On most afternoons, we watched hang-gliders soaring back and forth over the hilltops. One day, Hilary arranged for all of her guests to tour a local vineyard and then taste several of the superb local wines. Oh, and did I say breakfasts at the Maison were generous and delicious? I highly recommend Maison des Palmiers to anyone contemplating travel in the Languedoc. You'll want to extend your trip to enjoy the Dundas's hospitality.

We arrived at Maison des Palmiers by bicycle, and Hillary and Dennis could not have been more kind to our hot, tired selves. They showed us into their garage to park our bikes, and showered us with offers of water, coffee, tea or wine....
Their hospitality and kindness continued during our entire stay.
Our room was huge, sunny, and very French, with ornate tile, tall ceilings and french windows that opened to the street below. Our bathroom(s) likewise were huge, with a shower and sink in one, and a sink and toilet in the other. There were many other comfortable areas also open to guests: a beautiful garden and pool, with sitting area and fountain, a tv/sitting area, the breakfast/dining room which we invaded with our computer one night to conduct some business. The breakfasts were very fresh, filling and delicious with delicious marmalades and jellies made by Hillary.
Hillary used to own a bakery in Edinbourgh. She offered us cake and shortbread when we came home one evening which might have just been the best we've ever tasted.
The other guests were also great, a mother and two daughters from Norway, whose oldest daughter celebrated her 16th while there (Hillary brought out a homemade cake and candles at breakfast.) Another couple from Yorkshire, great fun, and we kept running into them everywhere we went. The last morning a couple from the Channel Islands joined us for breakfast, and we heard all about the The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society during the time of WWII... all in all, great company and a great time.
We highly recommend their B&B. This is what travel is all about.

Room Tip: Spend a little extra and get the larger rooms... it's worth it!

Denis and I were delighted to read your lovely comments. It was a pleasure to have you to stay with us and to have such a nice crowd of people here together. I hope you are enjoying the lovely dry sunny weather for the rest of your stay in the area.

On arrival we were welcomed by our hosts with wine and cakes - an excellent start to our holiday. The house is beautiful and I could have held a dance in my bedroom, which was large and well furnished, with a comfortable bed. Breakfast was good, with homemade fig jam which I have never tried before. our hosts were excellent and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay

Room Tip: My room was at the front and had a shower, as I cannot use a bath. It faced onto the road but was n...

We had a lovely stay, and enjoyed a lovely room, good facilities, comfortable beds.
A friendly and helpful service, great breakfast.
The local restaurant was also very good, and we would return to the area, and stay longer
to explore.
Many thanks to Hilary and Denis for a great stay.

Hilary and Denis went completely above and beyond during our trip that I would find ways to return to this part of France, just to stay at this house again. The house was cute and charming, with a great pool and an amazing outdoor patio (that we literally spend most of our meals at). They provided excellent daily excursion ideas, as well as great restaurant, and shopping recommendations. The breakfasts completely spoiled us so much that I was completely disappointing coming back to my own kitchen. I HIGHLY recommend this house if you are staying in this part of France!

August 10-17, 2013. We want to thank Hilary and Denis for providing us with such a warm welcome, a beautiful home in which to stay and the most delicious breakfasts every morning--they truly “made“ this vacation for our family! They are perfect hosts and went far beyond what would expected in helping with the unusual (finding our lost bike riders!) as well as being “spot on perfect” with their recommendations for beach locations, restaurants, scenic biking routes and other activities. Somehow they have managed to keep the charm and traditional features of the maison yet have modern bathrooms, very comfortable beds and wifi/computer service in house. We had a delightful dinner ready upon our arrival. The breakfasts every morning (with Denis’ homemade jams!) in the refreshing back garden/pool area were wonderful and sustained us for our day. The village of Bize is a great central location for exploring the area. We went out in a different direction everyday with our interesting destinations within a 30-45 minute drive. We truly cannot say enough good things about Denis and Hilary and this gem in the Languedoc!

Room Tip: We rented the entire home for the week. All the rooms are excellent. The three rooms on the 3rd fl...
