We discovered this special place in a book on French Country Hideaways. What a magnificent property! And the formal gardens were straight from a French Fantasy. We walked in them in the late afternoon, the evening, and again at dawn. Oh, you must get up at dawn to see the sun break through mist over the valley beyond the gardens! We stayed in the suite and had a perfect view of it all from our window. The decor was stunning, but comfortable and not at all stuffy. We felt as though we could enjoy all of the public rooms, as though in a freinds country house. Breakfast was delicious, with homemade confiture, all the breads one could eat, fruit, cheese, yogurt, meats, eggs and more! We loved every precious minute that we stayed at this glorious château, and were enchanted by our beautiful, gracious hostess, who is also the owner. We would love to return in the fall or winter, when leaves are off the trees, to photograph the gardens at the optimum time, such as appear in the book by the marvelous photographer Thierry Borredon.

We spent 2 nights at this lovely chateau in early August 2012 and wished we could have cancelled other arrangements and stayed longer. It is so serene that we would have been totally refreshed after the long journey from Australia if we had been able to rearrange our plans and stay longer. The chateau is charming, staff and hosts welcoming, and the gardens simply a delight, a real shame we couldnt spend more time enjoying them.
The breakfasts are very good, and the restaurants in the area particulalry good and varied. We visited Mont St Michel, St Malo, Dinan and even Bayeux from here.
We intend to return as soon as possible.

We stayed at this wonderful chateau based on a recommendation from a Brazilian blog specialized on France called conexaoparis.com.br.
There are really no words to describe how beautiful this chateau and its gardens are. Since there are only 5 rooms, you feel like you have the whole castle and garden to yourself. Rooms are very large with great beds/bathrooms and have a view of the gardens and surroundings.
The location is around 15km from Mont St Michel. A lot of other great places to visit like St. Malo, St. Briac, Dinard.....
Also, before going, make a reservation at Le Coquillage, an oustanding restaurant close to Cancale.
We travel a lot in France and this was by far our best and most unique experience in a chateau.
We are already planning to go back next year for the July 14 concert.

If anyone wants to have the dream experience of spending the night at a real Chateau in France but more than that, feel at "home" ... please consider this place...
Don't think of it as a hotel, even though you'll find the most nicest room, awesome service and delicious food at breakfast!!! Consider this experience as if if were your own house....
The gardens are spectacular and the location couldn't have been better. Sooo close to Mt. St. Michel yet away from the noise and the touristic places.
would love to go back sometime!

We stayed at Chateau la Ballue for two nights in mid-June 2012 while visiting Mont-St-Michel. We were completely taken by the chateau itself, the warm hospitality of the owner, family and staff, and of course the gardens. The drive from Bazouges-la-Perouse to Mont-St-Michel was an easy 20 kms., through unhurried postcard perfect countryside. Our room, the signature "Diane" room, with its views of the orangerie, the chateau's arched yew hedge entrance way, and adjacent grounds, made us not want to leave at all. Accommodation was of a high standard, breakfast was generous, overall service attentive, and we will return.

Room Tip: We were lucky to be given "Diane", and it was as pictured in the brochure, and better.
