“Perfect ski weekend get away”
Reviewed March 25, 2013

5 work colleagues have just returned from this super little hotel and would return without question. We needed somewhere close to Geneva airport (we were only going for a long weekend) that didn't break the bank on hotel single supplements and we needed to be near a quiet ski area. 3 of the group had never skiied before so we did not want to go to one of the larger busier resorts and overall Cordon and Les Rhodos hotel was absolutely perfect for what we needed. We had 4 'renovated' rooms and one 'old style' room - all of which were perfectly serviceable but the fittings did vary from room to room (so if you wanted a room with batch and shower then I recommend you request this at booking). We were on the half board option and whilst breakfast was a help yourself continental set up, it was more than adequate for what we needed, but the 4 course dinner was exceptional considering this is a 2 star hotel (I've had worse food in a 5 star hotel). The fact that the restaurant in the evening had more locals dining than hotel guests proves just how good it was. The half board option was a set menu each evening with no choice, but the lovely waitress checked with us each evening to make sure we were OK with the menu and offered us alternatives if any of the courses didn't suit. On our last evening we asked if we could swap the set menu for the 'Raclette' meal as we'd seen other diners having this and it just looked too good NOT to have it !. This wasn't an issue at all, and we were so glad we asked as it truly was as good as it looked.
the hotel is situated at the base of a blue run, about 25 m walk up the hill to get to the drag lift (1st drag of the day is free for skiiers as the cashiers hut is based at the top of the piste). Or you can catch the free ski bus that takes you up to the top (same bus also takes you down into the village for ski hire - I recommend the Pugnat ski hire shop, very friendly and very reasonable). we were there for the last weekend of the season and the snow in places was a little slushy, but on the flip side, it was very very quiet so perfect for 3 of our group as they had never skiied before. A hour's lesson for the 3 of them was €44 - how cheap is that !
All in all we have had a great weekend in Cordon - it's not a place for skiier who like extensive resorts (saying that though, it's next door to Megeve and 30 kms from Chamonix, so if you had a car, it wouldn't be a problem), but if you want empty slopes, cheap ski hire and lift passes, a great little hotel with very good food (mountain hut half way down the bottom blue slope was excellent as well) - you would have to go a long way to find anything better !. I would return without doubt

I stayed in this hotel for four nights in late December 2012. Les Rhodos is a small, friendly, good quality hotel in an excellent ski area (to make the most of the area you would need a car). Our room had good decor and furnishings with free wifi, the bathroom was modern with an excellent shower. We booked for bed and breakfast, breakfast was a very good buffet selection. We also stayed for dinner a couple of nights, the dinner was excellent and comparable to other good restaurants in the area. The owners and staff were welcoming and friendly providing us with an all round excellent service. Overall I was very impressed with all aspects and found the hotel good value for money. I would definitely recommend it.

Room Tip: The website described our room accurately having been recently renovated.

Fantastic value, with clean, comfortable rooms, incredibly helpful staff, a great power shower, endless hot water, wonderful views, good atmosphere and fabulous food. We stayed in numerous two star hotels cycling in Brittany this summer. None were nearly as good. Pascal, the owner, went out of his way to make our skiing holiday a success. I recommend it wholeheartedly.

Room Tip: Specify if you want shower and bath, not just a walk in shower. They have both.

We loved Les Rhodos. It's a real French family hotel. Valerie and Pascal who run it were charming and fantastically hospitable. We went for the half board option and enjoyed a wonderful 4 course meal every night for 25 Euros per person. It's 25 metres from the bottom drag lift in Cordon. The views are fantastic. Pascal offers a free shuttle bus service to Combloux for those wanting to ski the bigger areas in Megeve. The rooms were clean and comfortable (if not all that big), the showers modern and powerful, there's free wifi etc etc. For the price, I don't know how it could have been better. The one thing I would say is that we were the only Brits in the place. Everyone else was French. So, the only people I wouldn't recommend it to are people who want to be with other Brits, or people looking for nightlife. Cordon is very quiet, which is just how we liked it.

My husband and I wanted a cheap break in the Alps and after reseaching and comparing hotel prices in the area found Les Rhodos to be the best deal.

We were delighted to find a pretty hotel set in an amazing location with 360 degree views of the mountains. These panoramic views, including Mont Blanc with its sparkling snow cap, were visible from the dining area and outside balconies. Our en-suite room with balcony was basic but held Alpine charm and was very clean and adequate.

The service was excellent and all the staff were extremely helpful in this family run hotel. The owner is the chef and the speciality food offered was of a very high standard and good value - we looked forward to our evening meal, as it was a real treat!

We went walking in the mountains and this was an ideal base as there are many beautiful walks nearby.

Reasonably priced, friendly staff, clean, quiet, excellent food and mountains - we loved it!

This is a family-run hotel above the village of Cordon near Sallanches. Our room was basic but with own bathroom and balcony overlooking the local ski slopes at the back of the hotel. I would say it is perfectly adequate for skiers. The bed was firm but the pillows a bit lumpy. Most rooms seem to be at the front of the hotel with spectacular and panoramic views of the mountains, so it is worth specifying when you book.I suspect from experience that the rooms allocated by hotels to booking agenies are the least popular ones, so it's probably better to book direct.

The owner is a keen cook and serves regional specialities and half-board is good value. We had an excellent meal of guinea fowl and wild blueberry tart. Most of the guests were middle-aged couples and the hotel was very quiet. We enjoyed the breakfast of freshly-baked bread and pastries, cheese, ham, yoghurt, juice and coffee, while gawping at the 180 degree views from the dining room. All in all, good value considering that this is an expensive area.

As it is situated at the bottom of the village ski runs, it is well placed for skiers but must also be lovely in the summer. The local town of Sallanches is not very beautiful but has a railway station for a scenic journey to Chamonix and the village of Chardon is small and quaint with a couple of bars, a small supermarket and a tourist office.

There is a shuttle mini-bus service from and to Sallaches and another from Cordon up the mountain to the ski slopes - both are cheap but erratic, with sometimes no service at all and the local taxis rip off those, like us, who arrive without transport. Expect to pay 18 - 20 euros for the couple of kilometres from Sallanches!
