“Fantastic B&B, wished we could stay longer”
Reviewed July 28, 2012

Stayed at the Crossways Inn on Friday 27th July when we were down visiting friends in Highbridge. Stayed in Room 2, it was massive! Better than the photos suggested. All the staff were really lovely and very helpful. Dragged ourselves out of the very comfortable superking sized bed for breakfast the next day, which was amazing!

Obviously not somewhere to stay if you were wanting peace and quiet as you are in/above a pub, however for us that was perfect as we were out late with friends. Definately should invest in more advertising, as is a great little place and I'm sure others would also love to know about it. We look forward staying again!

Room Tip: We stayed in a disabled access room, which meant a big room and a huge bathroom with large walk in s...

Stayed at the Crossways inn on 23rd June 2012
The rooms are well decorated and spotlessly clean; they are just like the pictures shown on the Inns web site. On arrival we were greeted in a very friendly manner and made to feel welcome. Breakfast was very good and freshly cooked. All the staff were very friendly and went out of their way to make sure our stay was enjoyable, if only other B & B could operate like this, great value for money, would definitely stay here again. highly recommend this inn, if you stay here, you won’t be disappointed.

Stayed at the Crossways on 2nd June.
I was attracted to this one as it was close to Secret world and the pictures looked good.

The rooms are nicely decorated and they provide everything you would need. The bathroom in particular is gorgeous and there has obviously been a lot of thought into how to maximise the limited space.
I thought the rooms were big enough and the bed was comfortable.
Breakfast was very nice and the staff were helpful and very pleasant.

We ate in the pub in the evening and the service was great, making sure we had a reserved table in a nice part of the pub. Food was good and plenty of it.

This is quite a busy pub and as you would expect had lots of locals, who all knew each other, it was very pleasant and they were all welcoming and friendly.

On the negative side, there were loads of quite young children still in the pub at 10pm all tired and miserable and really should have been gone by 9pm. I guess this is what happens in a small village country pub? But that was a minor grumble really and I suppose had it not been raining heavily they would have been outside in the great garden.

Price:
Them food was well priced but even though the rooms were great, I thought they were a tad expensive. Maybe £10 less would have been about right. But I recognise there has been lots of investment to create a nice room so I was prepared to pay it.

This would be a brilliant pub to have as a local, especially in winter when the fire is lit.

This pub also has a games area, it has pool darts, video games and a skittle alley, so I bet the atmosphere is great during the week too.

I would go back and I would recommend it to others.

This is our 2nd visit to the this Inn.

This time we went with our family. I was so impressed the 1st time we recommended this to our family to join us.

We was met yet again by friendly & helpful staff. Rooms are still in great condition. The locals are so welcoming towards you. The food was good on the evening. The breakfast was not so tasty this time, but the service at breakfast excellent, very cheerful.

Unfortunatley a couple of things went wrong. The cream for the coffes in the rooms was out of date by 4 months in both our rooms (we made these up without checking the date). The heating in room 5 was so hot 27oc. They asked twice to have it turned down, but to no avail. There was empty shampoo (free ones) in the shower tray room 5. I only mention this is because you should not get these problems with 4 star.

I also dont think i paid as much the 1st time . It was £80 a couple with breakfast.

Apart from this i would still recommend to people to visit for the welcoming off staff & locals which will make your stay.

Room Tip: I have stayed in room 4 & 6 which gave a good night sleep.

We arrived on Sunday afternoon for a one night stay. Met by cheerful staff and shown to a great room decorated in a modern style to a very high quality. The room (Room 2) had underfloor heating, wood floor, blond wood furniture, comfortable bed with good quality bed linen. The bathroom was high spec with a great shower and fluffy towels. Everything you needed for a good night. We booked a table for dinner and had great pub food from a menu which included a range of daily specials. They had a very good selection of well kept local real ales - I think 7 on tap, so something for most tastes. This was a well established popular pub that until a few years ago was getting a bit tired. A lot was spent sensitively upgrading the public spaces while keeping the traditional atmosphere. It has definitely recovered its mojo. Friendly and positive staff make sure you enjoy your visit, and the 'crack' around the bar was fun to listen in on. So it's a great place to stay for those who want a drink, a meal, some good conversation and a nice room to retire to.

Room Tip: Room 2 where we stayed is accessbile for people with a physical disability. It's on the ground f...

We have often been to the Crossways Inn for a drink and occasionally for a meal as it is a lovely old pub within walking distance of where some of the family live. On this occasion we stayed for a night as it was my nephew’s 18th birthday and those of us who lived further afield could have a few drinks without worrying about the drive home or having to impose on the family by staying over.

The Crossways is a very old pub (17th Century), but has recently been extended to include the new modern b&b. As you would expect from a new refurbishment the rooms are to a very high standard. The beautiful en-suite bathroom was like something out of a glossy magazine, with a large shower unit and a very powerful shower. The mirror was magic, it didn’t steam up even when the shower was in use. As well as the towels you would naturally expect there were also face flannels provided and a lovely little basket of complimentary toiletries.

We had a safe for any valuables, an iron and ironing board, a good selection of teas and coffees including decaf. Fresh milk was also available on request for anyone who doesn’t like the little plastic pots of longlife stuff. Our comfy bed was massive, I thought I’d lost my husband in the middle of the night but he was just out of reach.

We’d chosen the Crossways primarily for the location, but were well-pleased to see the bar menu clearly marked with gluten-free options. Also at breakfast time there was no hassle when we asked for our own gluten-free bread that we’d brought with us to be toasted. The staff were aware of the risk of cross-contamination with a Coeliac in the family. There was a good choice of breakfasts from the usual full English to Kippers, and we were kept well-supplied with tea and coffee. It was a pity that we had to dash off for another commitment as it would had been lovely to sit there a while longer drinking tea and watching the unusual feature tank of sea horses and corals.

Ten out of ten.

Room Tip: There is a stair lift, so the rooms are suitable for those with mobility problems,
