“Not up to typical Marriott standards”
Reviewed March 31, 2013

As a Marriott time-share owner, we traded to come to St Kitts, and while the physical property is beautiful, there are issues that must be improved. The service is horrible at the restaurants on property, meals take way too long to get, servers ignore your requests and don't know enough about the food to answer questions. The breakfast Buffett is a nightmare, over priced and you have to wait in long lines to get an omelet or waffles because they don't have enough line chefs making the food for you as you order.
Housekeeping is another major issue for us. We were asked to fill out request forms as to our needs about 2 weeks before we arrived via email. I also called a couple of days in advance to reconfirm my simple request of foam pillows due to allergies to feather pillows. This request was not done, housekeeping was called twice and the housekeeper who came to tidy our room was also verbally told. To no avail were we even contacted! In all the years of dealing with Marriott, we have never had such issues, housekeeping has always been right on top of things and responded in a timely manner. I believe that management at this site needs to improve and get on top of things, because a paying customer needs to be kept happy if they want them to come back.
Now the physical property is magnificent, beautifully laid out with pools in good locations, a basketball court that was in use every day, a swim up pool bar that was always packed and a beach that surpassed our expectations! The beach was so beautifully set up with lounge chairs and gazebos all down the beach, the Atlantic had barrier rocks that blocked heavy waves from coming onto the beach. Just a great set-up for a wonderful relaxing day. The casino adds to something to do in the evening. The concierge service was very helpful in answering questions and setting up dinner reservations at nearby restaurants.

Room Tip: Ask for an ocean view and not patio

If you like a cool room do not go to the vacation club. we have been here 5 times and not once has the AC worked for the entire stay. No matter how good everything else may be the lack of AC in the room for 3 days brings it to a terrible rating.

Room Tip: stay in the hotel AC works there

Overall good to very good. The pool and beach areas are excellent. The only annoying thing is that beginning at about noon each day they blast very loud music--two systems competing and it is bad. They've turned a relaxing experience into a very loud rap/disco session and it is endless.
The food in the restaurants is very good, consistent and reasonably priced. Service is slow but it is island time--relax. There are many local restaurants within 15 minutes walking or 5 mins and $8 dollars by cab. We did not have a bad meal in mostly rustic and beach settings. Try Cathy's, Buddy's, and Sunset. We also ate at Ciaos--a very good Italian restaurant with homemade pasta.
Get to the beach and pool early in the morning to claim your spot for the day. Take the 3.5 hour taxi your of the island $80 and see the sites. The only true negatives were that we had to change units because our unit was not what we had asked for. The mid week cleaning that was requested failed to happen and they failed to exchange our beach towels after 3 days as advertised and we had to call 5 times to get our towels changed and it took almost all day-- you cannot exchange time share towels at the pool or beach. Housekeeping service leaves a lot to be desired. These were small things and did not detract from a beautiful place and great vacation.
Finally. The staff was the friendliest and most helpful that we have encountered. All never failed to greet you and ask if you were having a good time. The staff can make or break a vacation. ALL staff members were perfect---cudos.

Our third stay here in a vacation club apartment. The beach , hotel and our accommodation were all in great shape. Our kids love the activities - kids club , table tennis , beach football , and even the free scuba trial in the pool. All the staff we met were very friendly and helpful. Must recommend a catamaran snorkelling trip with Blue Water Safaris , was worth every penny , a lovely boat and a really friendly , helpful crew - great guys.
The only downer is the on site food . It is overpriced and only average quality . Would strongly suggest the hotel think about some kind of evening buffet option , or a beach side barbecue. Breakfast in Calypso is the best option. More local flavour please! St Kitts is a great island , a perfect piece of the Caribbean and we'll be back again.

DO NOT RECOMMEND. Traveled here with a bunch of friends and seeing that we were students we were dealt with like CRIMINALS through our trip and our every move was under scrutiny as security had a big target on our back as they have apparently had bad experience in the past with students. Staff was hostile and non-responsive to any requests and security barged into the room when everyone was sleeping to force us to leave as apparently when we were sleeping there was a noise complaint-(of maybe me snoring? i dont know). Dont recommend if you look young and they can target you as a student AT ALL. For paying 600 dollars for a room i was treated like dirt and kicked out because of some past mistakes someone else has made.

The Marriott Vacation club is attached to the Marriott Royal Beach Resort and Spa so you get all the amenities of both. Firstly I must praise the staff,in fact the St Kitts people in general are so very very friendly. Check in was a breeze but we did have to wait till 4pm check in time to get our key. No big deal we ate a late lunch at the Cafe Calypso, which was very nice.
We had a 2 bedroom villa in the "Palmetto" building which was on the 1st floor level. Very nice inside, the kitchen is very well stocked with all the things you would need. We had a patio with sun lounger and table and chairs and a view of the ocean.( you did have to look over the sea wall to see the beach but you could see the sea. ) like people have said this is the Atlantic side so the water it rougher than the Caribbean side. FYI the sand is not white like other islands. This is a volcanic island so the sand it either black or 'sand' colored.
It is very breezy on the beach so if you prefer you can go to one of 3 pools the hotel has. We had 1 right by our villa and it was never busy. In fact the beach was really quite too. No one put towels down and didn't come back for hours, you got a bed no trouble at all morning or afternoon.
We ate at the steakhouse on site twice both times it was good and the menu changed on the two different occasions. We ate at the beach bar one lunch time again decent food. We had booked at the Italian La Cucina for dinner the one evening but when we turned up for our reservation they have decided to do a buffet that evening instead,so tables were actually out in the hotel hall way.. We didn't fancy that so didn't stay.
Lots of decent restaurants a few minutes walk from the hotel on Frigate Bay road. We ate at The Rock Lobster excellent food and Ciao ok food. Our favorite was Marshall's a five minute ride away up the hill looking over the ocean. Fantastic food, excellent service and a great owner/ chef. We went there 3 times. Well worth the visit.
The island and hotel was quite for February, we have been to other islands over winter break and all have been very busy. This was a nice change even the airport was great.
The grounds of the hotel are very nice and well maintained. The lobby is very nice and open to the outside. There is a store where you can buy milk, cereal, water, beer, wine etc not a big selection but enough. There is a small grocery store just down the street that carries a bigger selection. If you have a car then go to the IGA a few miles away. They have 2 gyms. The large gym had lots of equipment and was very nice.
