“St Kitts and Nevis--The good, bad and ugly”
Reviewed August 16, 2012

The Mariott is a beautiful and well kept resort, several pools, cooking facilities and friendly staff. Sir Walter's tours was excellent, included a stop at the well preserved and largely intact Brimstone Hill Fortress colonial fort dating back to the 1800's, a not to miss sight. For scuba divers, Kenneth's Dive was a good experience, uncrowded boat visits some dive sites only Kenneth knows about. Diving was ok, similar to the Bahamas, not spectacular but enjoyable.

The bad and ugly: customs and immigration officials downright hostile and rude, worse than Russia (where we fully expected such as Americans). Refusal to even look at you, unnecessary pawing through bags, smart remarks about bag contents. Some sour attitude also at local restaurants, for example, asked the price of an item 4 times at the breakfast deli down the street from the Mariott, counter attendant never answered, just bagged it without answering.

Saw similar trip postings before we went there, sad to see they were accurate. There are more enjoyable places than St. Kitts to spend your valuable vacation time.

Room Tip: Try for an ocean view with balcony close to the beach, beautiful!

We just returned from Marriott's ST Kitts. We had a good time. My sons (teenagers) had a blast and decided they could be beach bums easily.
The Staff especially the bellboys and front door men were exceptional. They are friendly and helpful. They often gave great advice on what to do one the island. We used taxis everywhere. It was expensive but that's how it is. The taxi drivers were trustworthy.

I don't take risk anywhere and I felt safe at the resort and the island. We did walk to resturants nearby. Food was expensive. We ate quite a bit at the Bohemia Beach Bar/grille. My sons loved that place despite small menu choices. The staff at that resturant were friendly and helpful. Pizza by the pool is good and reasonably priced.

I wasn't too impressed with the Calypso Cafe. Had lunch once and left with a bad taste. The staff usually are busy socializing with each other (hostess and servers). Hard to get their attention for water! Never returned.

Tour around the island and the carribbean sea was good. There's a little funky shack on the beach and my teenagers enjoyed everything we got. Wish we went back there one more time before leaving for home.

Shiddy Shack is over rated I think. But everyone goes there and we did as well. It was OK.

We went for a week in July . Stayed in room #7307....check in was easy. They took all the bags to the room before we even got there. Room was great 3rd floor 3 bedroom with a full kitchen. It has a full deck that is huge you can easily lay out in the sun there or watch the sunset. You can hear the waves it's only a couple of hundred feet away. It also has washer and dryer in the room. Bathrooms are huge and beds are comfortable. The grounds are nice and well maintained. There are 3pools one for time share and the others by the main hotel. You can go wherever you want they don't care . There are little things that need some care like the pool chairs but overall it is fine.
Very relaxing nice place to stay. Service is slow at bar and restaurant but everything is slow down here. Just relax .......we will be back soon. Oh and also we did the zip lining with Greg's safari and it is well worth it. They will pick you up and one line is over 1300ft over the rainforest...very cool.

My family of six enjoyed staying at the Marriott's St. Kitts Beach Club. This timeshare is next to the Marriott Hotel & Casino.
The property has a nice pool & pool bar. It is also on the ocean. Very good for snorkeling and sun bathing.
There are plenty of places to eat on the property.
The bar was enjoyable. We were entertained by a wonderful piano player who sang what ever you wanted to hear. Jen Porter really got the bar rocking.
I will be back. St. Kitts was a very enjoyable island.

Room Tip: Ask for an ocean view early.

I just returned from a week at Marriott's St. Kitts Resort on Frigate Bay. I have stayed in many Marriott properties, and while this one was nice, it wasn't one of Marriott's better properties. i went with friends and we stayed in one of the timeshare units, so I can't speak for the hotel facilities. The unit was very nice and comfortable, well decorated. The resort is very large, the largest on the island, and is located on the Atlantic side. The beach (and water), however, were covered with seaweed. The maintenance crew had a hard time with keeping the beach clean which meant while we were enjoying a nice, relaxing day at the beach, tractors were trudging up and down the beach most of the day. If you want a nice, clear, quiet beach for snorkeling you'll have to hop in a taxi and head to one of the other beaches on the Caribbean side.

We tried two of the restaurants on site - Blu, a seafood restaurant, and La Cucina, an Italian restaurant. Both were very good. The service at the poolside restaurant, Bohemia, was slow. They seemed to be overwhelmed at lunch. The main pool was noisy (loud music and children), but the smaller pool near the timeshare units was much quieter.

The tour desk and the concierge desk personnel were outstanding. They offered assistance with booking tours, making recommendations for dinner, etc. Very friendly and knowledgeable.

St. Kitts is a lovely island and one of the lesser "touristy" Caribbean islands. There are other lodging options available rather than a huge resort that really doesn't give you a true island feel. if you want a large resort where you don't have to venture out and explore the island, then Marriott is for you, but if you want to truly experience St. Kitts and island culture, you would be better choosing one of the smaller, more intimate options on the island.

We stayed at Marriott St. Kitts in a two bedroom oceanside timeshare unit during Spring break in March. We used our destination points for the oceanside room and even though we wound up on the first floor, I really loved our room location. We had a nice green lawn area and enjoyed spending time on our patio and even cooked dinner on the nearby grills one night. We had visited this resort once previously and found some things improved and some things worse than before. Things that were better: check in process better and friendlier, pool tiles updated / redone, beach cabanas repaired from prior visit, room still in great condition. Things that were worse: only one person working at swim up bar a lot of days and it was packed = 30 minute wait for a drink! One of my favorite things about this resort from our July 2008 visit was the great snorkeling right in front of the hotel. It was WAY too windy and rough for that this time. The seaweed seemed thicker on the beach, but this could be due to the wind / season. The game room also seems to be permanently closed.

5 out of the 6 of us traveling got very sick with the flu. I spent several days laying in bed with 103 fever and the beds are very comfortable. There is a doctor that makes house calls to the resort and it was cheaper than our copay in the US, but also pretty basic and no labs done. We got antibiotics and strong cough syrup, but I think I needed tamiflu. We didn't get to do as much as we wanted this trip, but it was still a good trip.

I love St. Kitts and this resort is overall a great place to stay. The only negative experience I had was at the Italian restaurant one night. They had tables available and when we arrived early for our reservation the hostess was rude and wouldn't seat us and actually made us wait 30 minutes past our reservation and there were many empty tables the whole time. This was the only time we got bad service and "attitude". There are plenty of places to eat nearby, so if Marriott wants to keep you at their restaurants they should address this.

We just returned from an 8 day/7 night stay the Beach Club and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay! We were a family of five, and had the two bedroom unit. It was very clean, we had all the convienances of home. The furnishings were very nice, the beds comfortable, and the pool that is basically designated for the beach club was right outside our door, and was not crowded at all.

St. Kitts and Nevis was a gorgeous destination, much prettier than we had anticipated. The people were very friendly, the scenery was just amazing, and we really enjoyed our time there and are planning to go back.

The only knock I can give the Marriott is the beach. The Atlantic side is a bit rougher than the Caribbean side. The ocean in St. Kitss is not rough like you would see in the Northeast US, but is rough compared to the gorgeous and calm waters on the other side. Still, there are plenty of restaurants nearby (outside the hotel grounds), including a convienant store. Our stay was memorable!

Room Tip: I'm not sure if it's worth the extra money to stay Oceanside (like I did).
