“A week on St. Kitts”
Reviewed September 2, 2013

St kitts is a beautiful island and Timothy Beach is the perfect place to stay. It is not a fancy five star resort, but was perfect for us and a good value. The grounds are beautiful, and the groundskeepers worked daily to keep it that way. The office staff was cordial and helpful. The room we had faced the front with a great view of the sea. The room was not fancy, more utilitarian, but fit our needs. The housekeeping staff did a first rate job. The beach was small but, never too crowded. Each night we stopped by the bar for a drink before dinner. The bartenders were all very friendly, and introduced us to Mango daiquiris. Every meal in the restaurant was top notch and the price was always reasonable. We often walked to the market, and to the Atlantic side where the water was much rougher. The close proximity of the restaurants/bars on the beach was also a plus.

Wonderful!! Excellent service and very friendly staff. Pina coladas are delicious and were on my daily routine. Hotel is fab value and management does NOT nickel and dime you like the brand hotel down the road e.g. Wifi is free at TBR. My favourite is the the little bar on the beach where locals and ex-pats congregate for happy hour daily. Everyone -very friendly and will strike up a conversation with visitors.

The longer we stayed, the more we grew to appreciate this place! It was really beautiful, and the gardens were well-maintained. Although the pool was quite small, it was clean, with good quality sunbeds, mattresses and matching umbrellas, and very pretty. There were a couple of palm trees for some shade, and colourful flowerbeds. One of my favourite memories is lying by the pool, watching monkeys, mongoose, pelicans and frigate birds.

We stayed for 2 weeks in July/August, in a 1 bedroom top floor condo, with ocean view. It was nicely decorated, with a very large bedroom, and an open plan lounge/dining-room/kitchen.

As we had 2 teenage boys with us, we used the sofa bed in the lounge, and a rollaway bed too. The two beds took up the entire lounge area, but it worked well for us. If you had smaller children, there would be loads of room in the bedroom for a rollaway bed or even two. The beds were all comfy. Although our bed was two singles together, they were joined so tightly that they didn’t come apart, and we had double sheets – it was just like a superkingsize bed. They had put an extra mattress on top of the sofabed, and the rollaway bed was the comfiest of the three.

We had plenty of cupboard space, iron, hairdryer, TV (100 channels, mostly US). The internet service in the room was pretty good.

The kitchen had a large fridge/freezer, a 4 ring hob, microwave, toaster, coffee-maker, and plenty of cupboard space. We did quite a lot of cooking, and could have done with a bit more equipment - we only had 2 saucepans and a frying pan. The crockery and cutlery was fine, but only 4 of everything.

There was air conditioning in the bedroom and the lounge area, which is just as well, as it gets very hot in the summer. The balcony had 2 sunbeds and a table and chairs - although it was half shaded, it was very hot out there in July/August.

TBR has a lovely local feel, the staff were friendly, and service was very good. but don’t go there expecting a posh resort hotel. The reception area is just a small office, and it doesn’t have the grand communal areas of the Marriott up the road. However, it had everything we wanted, and I don’t think you could beat the location. You are handy for the beach and the Strip, and RAM’s supermarket is about 10 minutes’ walk away. There are other restaurants within walking distance, and you can get a taxi to Basseterre and the other beaches. It’s very quiet in low season, but the Strip had more going on than most places. Mr X’s was the nearest bar, and it had a fire-eater on Thursdays and Karaoke on Sunday. Although our room overlooked the Strip, the noise didn’t disturb us in the evenings.

The hotel’s own Dock Bar has a happy hour on weekdays between 5 and 6pm, and it’s a very sociable place. Clovis, the barman, was so welcoming. It’s also used by locals, and there was always someone nice to chat too. The views over the bay at sunset are lovely.

Frigate Bay has quite a long beach, with black sand. TBR has a few sunbeds on a very small, narrow beach area. The sea-bed is sandy, except for a thin line of rocks under the water a few yards out, but they have cleared a path in the water so that you are walking on sand. The water was very warm in July! The snorkelling is pretty good. The reef itself doesn’t look much, but it attracts lots of different fish, of all sizes and colours. If you swim to the end of the dock, then turn left there are more rocks where larger fish hide. We saw a turtle a few times.

There wasn’t much in the way of watersports at Frigate Bay in the low season, but you could hire jet-skis on days when a cruise ship was in port (Mondays and Fridays while we were there).

We hired a car for a week, but wish we’d only taken it for 3 or 4 days. We did a few activities: Scenic Railway, Catamaran cruise (with Leeward Islands Charters), Zipline – all were very good, especially the cruise. We really liked the Shipwreck Bar at South Friars Beach, which is a short taxi ride away. Brimstone Hill is definitely worth a visit. We also took the car to Nevis, which was ok, but I wouldn’t bother doing it again.

We were pleasantly surprised by the cost of eating and drinking out. A bottle of Carib beer was usually about EC$5 or 6, which is about £1.25/1.50. Lunch for 4 (main course and a couple of beers/cokes each) was about EC$40/£40 in a typical casual restaurant or beach bar.

The only thing negative about our holiday was that there weren't any other teenagers there for our boys to hang around with. Everything else was great, and I'm sure we'll go back.

Overall a really great hotel, with a fantastic location, great staff, good facilities. Travelling with my wife and 7yr old daughter we booked for 10 nights whilst already on st kitts and visiting from England. Right from check in we were presently surprised by a free room upgrade. The pool is excellently maintained and very clean. The beach bar and cafe/restaurant are excellently served with friendly staff inc. Clovess, Jean, and Juliette! Several times we enjoyed the pool, beach, bar, happy hour (Mon -Fri / 5pm to 6pm), hotel food, never leaving the hotel. Our room cleaner Shirley was always really friendly and helpful too.

Fantastic
- Staff. Friendly & hardworking.
- Pool. Simple but with loads of beds and well maintained.
- Beach. Always loads of beds, very easy access to sea for immediate snorkelling with the fish, access to beach bar, and location to other beach located establishments not run by the hotel.
- Rooms. Clean, very large new beds, TV with loads of channels covering sport, children's, news and the usual US stuff, good fridge with small ice freezer (although you can just get a bucket of ice from the bar any time), plenty of wardroom space.
- Balconies. Ocean facing rooms have an amazing view and enough room for two deck chairs and patio furniture/table & chairs for 4
- Location. Brilliantly placed with walking access to st kitts two best beaches, upmarket restaurants, beach bars & restaurants, express supermarket, liquor store, souvenir shop, golf course, as well as Marriott's casino. What else do you need :-)
- Deck chairs. Two types of chairs neither model I've seen before, but both are better than the usual hotel plastic ones!
- Hotel grounds. Simply immaculate!

Good
- Wifi around the hotel, rooms and pool/beach has good coverage, although the bandwidth is weak. Only suitable for emails or webpages, you can't stream or watch Netflix/youtube, and Facebook struggles for example.
- Sunday live band @ 9pm. Live music at the beach bar every Sunday night.

Could do better
- Mountain facing view room balconies looked pretty small, and could only handle 1 person at a time.
- No lounge or communal area, other than the bar/restaurant. So if you get bad whether people are trapped in the room, or have to go off resort.

There aren't that many hotels in St Kitts. We went last week (July 2013) and stayed at Timothy Beach Resort. It's not a franchise or chain hotel so it's more personal and more "authentic St Kitts:. It's also on the "strip", next to several beach bars. Great hotel. Highly recommended.

We have just arrived back from Timothy resort and we thought the place was ok+. The room was clean if a little dated and we had the upgraded room. The beach area for the resort is small but clean and we had the pool to ourselves most days. The food at the restaurant was ok not mouthwatering but it was ok and again very clean. We enjoyed the beach bar at sunset but remember some bug spray we got a little eaten but that's all hot places at sunset! Our one small area of concern was the lack of front desk after 11pm there is a security number to call during the night hours but we just always feel more secure with people there not that we ever felt unsafe at all just our own little thing. The grocery store is about 10 to 15 min walk so take a cab its hot carrying the stuff home !!! The staff here were all amazing never met nicer or friendlier people very happy in their work. Overall a nice place and we would use again if we go back to St. kitts..

We have stayed many times at the Timothy Beach over the years and it always lives up to expectations. This hotel is not a glamourously 5 star experience , it is far better!!!!! If you prefer to stay in local hotels when on holiday , experiencing local food, customs and culture, the Timothy Beach is for you!!!!!. The staff are very welcoming and are happy to assist you any way they can. The rooms are clean, comfortable and serviced every day. The resteraunt serves a varied menu as well as local specialities. I would recommend the ribs ( delicious) and the chicken fingers dipped in a honey & musterd sauce....mouthwatering!!!The resort is situated on the calm side of frigate bay , perfect for swimming and snorkelling.
Beach bars are scattered along the bay, try eating at Kathys, partying at shiggidy shack or at The Dock on a Sunday night where local bands play the night away!!!
The resort is also close to a local supermarket, coffee shop, local craft shops and the Marriott Hotel where there is a casino.
An excellent resteraunt is also close by.....Marshalls. Here you will have an excellent meal surrounded by stunning scenery. We ate here on our last stay . The food and service was without doubt one of the best I have experienced in the Caribbean....I will be certainly visiting this resteraunt on my next visit.
Room wise...I would recommend you spend a little more and stay in the one bedrooms suites which overlook the Caribbean Sea or golf course. These are equipped with a small kitchen area, lounge, balcony and bathroom. The bedroom area is at the back of the apartment, away from the noise from the night activity on the "strip". The kitchen is adequately furnished for making a snack, drinks etc. the fridge is large ...great for keeping your Caribs (local beer) cool!!!! Sit on your balcony and watch the monkeys playing in the early morning, the mongoose & the cockerels!!!
The Timothy Beach is a moderately priced hotel in a great location. Stay there to enjoy a Caribbean holiday and a very warm Caribbean welcome.
