Reviewed February 19, 2013

we recently stayed at the Queens Head with friends, and found the hotel rooms immaculate and clean, the restaurant food was of very good standard and very reasonably priced. I dont think we would hesitate in staying here, and as we had such a good time, it could become a regular visit.

Best pie ever. According to my partner. I had fillet steak with blue cheese and blue cheese sauce. My only criticism being my blue cheese sauce was served as a peppercorn sauce. Not being the type to complain I ate it despite the error. Steak was cooked beautifully. Nice seating area with plenty of space between tables. Overall nice atmosphere and a pleasant evening. With excellent food.

Firstly thank you so much for your lovely review, don't know when you ate with us but thanks for coming to Rothbury and eating with us. Secondly I must apologise you got the wrong sauce but I am pleased it didn't spoil the overall experience. I hope you come and eat with us again.

We've visited the Queens for food several times over the past couple of years (mainly lunch but occasionally dinner) and have never been disappointed.

Lunch is usually served in the bar, a traditional country pub layout, other than on Sundays or bank holidays when the restaurant is also open. The menu is varied and most items are reasonably priced. The Sausage (sourced from a local award winning butcher) is especially good whilst the Sea-Bass served with ginger and stiry-fried vegetables is a very tasty 'healthy' option.

Service is always good, expect to wait maybe fifteen minutes for your food, maybe a little longer if the kitchen is very busy.

A lighter menu is available for lunch (sandwiches / baked potatoes etc), and a carvery served on a Sunday.

If you are in Rothbury and looking for some good pub food, then look no further.

Rothbury on a Thursday afternoon in January was a little unexciting, I'm afraid. We had trouble parking, the shops were totally unremarkable, there was nothing obvious to see or do ... We went in search of lunch and weren't inspired. Then we 'happened' on the Queen's Head. The old fashioned welcome was encouraging, the menu was comprehensive, we chose hot sandwiches which were delicious - chicken and stilton for him, pork and stuffing for me - the seating was comfortable and informal - and the service was excellent. The staff were genuine, helpful, humorous, respectful. A lovely atmosphere for a lovely lunch. Well done! Don't change a thing - ever!

we were staying in the area locally and picked the Queen's Head from the internet before we travelled so we were unsure of our choice. However we enjoyed Christmas Day Lunch immensely - the food was delicious and there was a pleasant family atmosphere. The staff were unobtrusive but efficient and friendly. We were very pleased by our choice! Thank you to all concerned :)

We have stayed at the Queen's Head several times and have enjoyed each visit - without breaking the bank. An old established pub/hotel like this cannot compete on the same terms as chic modern premises, thank goodness. Its lack of pretention is what appeals. Rooms have been immaculately clean and we have slept soundly. Any problems (and there are always some, even in the best establishments) have been attended to promptly - usually whilst we have gone off for walk round lovely Rothbury. Staff are very friendly - Alan in particular could not do enough to help. Super breakfasts. We will return.

Room Tip: If you don't like what is offered, ask - the staff will try to accomodate your requirements.
