Myself and my husband stayed here on a groupon we where given a room 20. It was clean and tidy but the room was cold and the beds were so uncomfortable. We were supposed to stay 2 night but we checked out early as we could not stay in those beds another night. We also eat in the restaurant which was ok. I am sure if we were given this room due to being on a groupon but we were disappointed.
I was a little confused about this review. After saying the room was clean and tidy they marked cleanliness as a 2?. The "uncomfortable" beds are pocket sprung bases and mattresses and medium firm, I suspect that they are another convert to soft foam at home as this is becoming a bit of a theme. The raidiator in the room has a thermostat which is easily turned up if the room feels chilly. As to value for money? the deal they where on is a joke.
Yet again, nothing said at the time so nothing I can do to rectify the problem.
We stayed at the Queen's Head for a couple of nights on the way home. The reviews were very encouraging and fully justified, and we cannot complain about the food, which was delicious and plentiful. The bar staff and the waitress in the restaurant gave first class service. However, we were a bit concerned about one thing - the hotel's electricity supply! One morning we came down to breakfast only to find a power failure. The explanation was "there are a couple of lights downstairs that aren't supposed to be on at the same time that the kitchen is working".
We stayed in room 14, and we noticed that all of the appliances are run from a pair of extension leads - that is, from two sockets in the wall, for about five or six items. I'd be surprised if this passed any sort of safety inspection.
This is a shame, because the people running the hotel work very hard, and deserve to see their efforts rewarded. But electricity isn't something to take any chances with.
I am so pleased that you enjoyed your stay and recognise the hard work we put in to keep The Queens Head a nice place to stay for our guests. Can I assure you that the electric was off that morning because we had an electrician in to see to a light fitting on the ground floor and he turned the power off, it was only the Chef who went up in a blue light as he was preparing breakfast and the power was reconnected immediately,
As to your room, there are four power sockets in the room the only reason we use extention cables is because they are never in the right place, two bedside lights a clock radio, tv and kettle are not excessive use. We have a safetly inspection every year by the fire brigade and have all the necessary safety checks on the electric and gas supply.
I would like to assure guests that we do not take safety lightly, the building was rewired at an astranomical cost some 8 years ago, along with a new fire alarm and smoke detectors, a much higher spec than most homes.
My husband and I stayed here using the Groupon deal in late October. The deal wasn't officially meant to start until November but the lady I dealt with via email was very accommodating and allowed us to use the deal a little earlier.
The hotel/pub is an old building so there's bound to be some wear and tear, but our room (a twin on the top floor) was very homely, clean and decorated in a modern style. We ate in the restaurant that evening and the food was excellent, as was the breakfast the next morning.
We couldn't fault the service and for what we paid it really was a bargain.
Not at all the fault of the hotel, but I had a poor night's sleep due to the church bells ringing throughout the night....why???!!!!!!
Having visited the queens last year for food, we decided to come and stay for 2 nights. In arrival we were shown to our room by a friendly member of staff and shown all the facilities, our room was absolutely gorgeous, stylish and chic. We went into the bar which was so cosy and friendly, locals chatted to us and the beer is lovely, some of the best I have had. Dining in the restaurant is a treat. Couldn't decide from the list of local produce on offer. All home made, delicious. I can recommend the chocolate brioche bread and butter pudding. The staff are friendly, attentive and nothing is too much trouble. After dinner we relaxed in the bar with a pint or 2 of real ale and listened to local stories. Breakfast takes alot of beating. The sausages from the butchers next door have won awards. The waitress informed us of things to do. All in all the queens is a lovely place to stay. The owners should be very proud of the what they have achieved. We'll definately be back. Thank you so much for a lovely stay, can't wait to come back.
