After being advised against it we went for a few drinks in the Newcastle House as we had friends staying in the hotel upstairs, and as soon as we walked in we were greeted with a warm inviting atmosphere, Friendly helpful staff an friendly patrons. Excellent choice of drinks from Cumberland Ale right through to Coors and on to Jagermeister...
Fantastic jukebox with a huge selection.
We stayed for a few hours and were very happy with our choice.

I had lunch here on the Rothbury Music weekend. I was with my husband, son and mother in law. The food was very good. The oil did need changing in the fryer as the chips and fish cake were quite dark brown. The staff are wonderful and there was a little party in the restaurant area which was very nice to be semi part of. Excellent menu choice. Clean interior and nice carpets.

The Newcastle Hotel is a pleasant pub / hotel on the main street in the centre of Rothbury overlooking the Market place.
Recommended by the owners of our holiday cottage, we ate here one evening during our stay in Rothbury and it was the best meal we experienced in the village. It seems to have quite a good reputation which makes it popular, so recommended to book in advance. The restaurant section was full on the evening we utilised it and as everything is cooked fresh to order the kitchen was struggling a bit and we did have to wait a while, but not excessively. But the waitress staff were very friendly and apologetic for the delays
Internally the pub is a traditional two bar pub set up with a plain public bar and then the separate smarter lounge / dining area with a bit more character. No garden that I could see, but there are some external tables and these were well utilised by drinkers, as was the green village square opposite the pub when the sun was out.
Each bar has three hand pumps and for our couple of visits the local Coquetdale Thrum and Northumbrian Brewery Blonde were available alongside a very well kept Box Steam Brewery Funnel Blower. This represented probably the best ale choice to be found in the four Rothbury pubs whilst we were there and it was also good to see the Newcastle Hotel well supported by an eclectic mix of locals, tourists and ramblers.

Thanks to everyone at The Newcastle for making it a very pleasant stay in Rothbury. We've visited Rothbury on a few occasions, staying at other establishments, this was our first stay at the Newcastle. We found it a friendly and comfortable base. Good choice for breakfast and lovely porridge. Curry night on Wednesday's very good. We would definitely stay again when visiting Rothbury.

We were staying at the Hotel on Curry Night and decided to try the offer of all you can eat for £10. I'm not a big eater myself, but my husband got his money's worth. The food was tasty and the service was friendly. Would recommend.
