Have just returned from a relaxing two day break spent in the main hotel in a lovely loch view room. Was concerned about the comments read on tripadvisor but was pleasantly surprised. The staff were great couldn't do enough to help. The food was superb, freshly cooked courses, The Cullen Skink was to die for. Yes it took some time but as I say each course was cooked freshly and if you are in good company and have nowhere specially to rush to what was the hurry. The lounge with it's lovely open fire was super and my grandchildren and I made full use of it to play cards and read. There are some problems here re water, heating etc but Gary and his team do the best they can to make your stay enjoyable. All in all a good weekend.

Room Tip: Loch views are stunning.

On arrival the room was cold-a heater was provided. The water was undrinkable -bottled water was provided only on request The dining room/conservatory was cold and the food was very poor-seemed liked frozen, microwaved meals. We checked out after meal so cannot comment on breakfast offering Worst hotel I have been in

Our problems started months before we arrived when, after paying in full, the Hotel failed to acknowledge receipt of payment and then told me they required a further £200+. Promises to ring me back were broken on a number of occasions and only after sending a recorded letter did they finally acknowledge that I had paid in full.

The Lodge, given the high price being charged, was a big disappointment, the cot, promised by the Hotel, was not there and only after shiffting bed and furniture around were we even able to get a travel cot in despite the Hotel being informed that we would have a four month old baby with us. Maintenance and Housekeeping was minimal to say the least, lights not working, dirt and debris under the TV stand, windows not cleaned, old food frozen into the icebox of the fridge, dishwasher leaking water, one shower not working and the other pathetic shower finally giving up on the Friday, mould on bathroom tiles and bath side panel, toilet seats loose, and as for the the hot tub don't even ask!

Given that we paid over £700 for a weeks stay and the hotel was trying to charge a further £200 plus, the standard of accommodation should have been first class. Would we stay again? A resounding NO - I have stayed half board in two separate Hotels in Tyndrum and the accommodation was excellent and just a fraction of the price. Before writing this review I sent an email to the General Manger asking for his response - it seems that he has nothing to say as I am still waiting for his reply.

We stayed in the main hotel for 3 nights 29th october,we had read the reviews before we went with an open mind paid £99 each b&b.we found the room clean tidy although could have done with a light dust bathroom was all ok.the water issue did not bother us ran the bath and the water seemed to clear ok.we were given as much bottled water as we asked for.The breakfast set us up for the day and was plentifull, the evening meals were just as good my wife said the salmon was the best she had tasted.it was a bit cold in the consevatory [october remember] but we picked a table near a heater problem solved.the staff were friendly and nothing seemed too much trouble.i tend to find if you speak to people how you would like to be spoken to you get no problems.the views are to die for its set in a stunning location well worth the 7 hour journey.we spoke to a few people who were having a few problems but they were staying in the lodges.other guests in the main hotel did not seem to have any problems.what i think is people expect too much they expect 5 star accomadation for 2 star prices the hotel does need a little updating but overall we had a great few days there.dont believe everything you read most of these comments are from people who want everything for nowt

Room Tip: stop in the main hotel,

we have just returned back from portsonachan hotel and prior to going we was concerned after reading comments on trip advisor we shouldn't have worried, rooms clean, staff friendly, views amazing, yes service was slow and could do with extra staff but didn't put us off as we had a wonderfull time anyway, go with an open mind its a 3* hotel with a 5* view people looking for 5* go to glen eagles and pay, for a chilled out value for money then stay here
