“Great views for miles & miles”
Reviewed June 10, 2014

We visited in May.

We had a combined coach and train trip from Andalsnes to Bjorli. Sitting on the right hand side of the coach travelling up the valley we had brilliant views of the Troll wall and Rauma river. Two stops (one at the Troll wall visitor centre and one at the Slettafossen) gave us chance to take photos.

We sat on the right hand side of the railway carriage on the one hour return journey from Bjorli, to appreciate the views of the other side of the valley. Even though it was not the official tourist season (starting June) the train slowed down slightly to give photo opportunities at Kylling bridge and Vermafossen.

We had a limited, recorded commentary (presumably better during the main tourist season).

Our combined tour was good value for money and is highly recommended.

“I think I can, I think I can...Awesome!”
Reviewed October 12, 2013

This little train's voyage from Andalsnes takes it through some of the most breathtaking scenery I've ever admired. It goes from the depth of the fjord valley, to great heights, over rivers, bridges, and awesome views of mountains, rocks, and lively cascades.
Pure joy.

“Underrated and undernoticed”
Reviewed September 29, 2013

The Flam Railway seems to get most of the publicity when it comes to Norway's trains but the Rauma railway is every bit as good and, in ways better. We rode this route from Andalsnes to Dombas, connecting there to the Trodheim train, in late August. The train was much less touristy than the Flam line. Along the route there remains several small town stations that must look almost exactly as built. Most of the passengers seemed to be getting from A to B rather than being out for just a train ride. The route is about 110km and climbs over 650 meters from sea level in Andalsnes. Unlike most Norwegian passenger trains it is diesel powered rather than electric. The route was originally intended to go to all the way to Alesund. There are connecting buses from Alesund that take you right to the Andalsnes station. The little train was clean and comfortable with larger windows that were an asset for viewing and photos Be aware there is no food service on the train, only a coffee machine. The bus connection in Andalsnes does not provide much time for provisioning and there does not appear to be anything close to the Dombas station.

“Magical”
Reviewed September 20, 2013

I did the The Flam Railway and in comparison i think The Rauma Railway surpasses the latter. The views are magical. The line goes from top to bottom (if you depart from Dombås) and the views are specially stunning when you are at the steep of the montain looking to the valley and enjoying the small bridges in which you pass and admire the force of the water underneath (the driver even slows down here for better sightseeing). Never in a rail trip i was so close to the rocky formations and you have to push your head way up to see the top of the montains. I am glad i have planned the return trip some days after just to re-live the experience all over again.
The train conditions are stunning and personnel very attentive; and mind buy this delicious bread onboard (brød); it was there i first discovered it (i later found it in the mainstream supermarkets of the country).
The seats are marked and if you buy the tickets in nsb.no you can choose your seat. I recommend vively taking a seat on the left side of the train (following the direction it goes of course).

“What a fantastic Trip”

Took a trip on the railway as part of a cruise trip with P&O. Well worth every penny - wish we had time to go further!
